im a big sister in a mentoring program
the little girl lived in Africa until the age of 4 then moved here
ever since i met her see always wears one of those shawls that hides her hair. (but i was told she just started doing that this year) at first i thought it was muslim, but dont muslims cover their whole body, she wears normal clothes like t shirts
also are their any rules with this religion i should know
i really want to make jewerly with her, but she never wears any so i was just wondering if that has anything to do with her religion

Only certain Islamic areas (like the lot of the Middle East) cover the entire female body. Most Muslim women need only to cover their hair and wear modest clothing...like the Qur'an calls for.

no rules, I think religion is just a believing stuff,Why? , ancient time, people have lot of free time, so they create all type of system for their past time. So , some follow until today, To tell you the truth, you can do anything as you like, provided the law don't catch you. Their law, is created by them. You can do anything in the bath room, how do I know what you do inside.Same as the world. If the law catch you , don't do it, if you think there is no law there, by all means is your freedom , like you in your bathroom.May be the insect see what you do in the bathroom, why care so much, As long you don't make another person suffer. OK

She's probably a muslim. Not all Muslim women are required to cover their whole body, in fact most of the ones in the U.S. only cover their hair.

Why don't you just ask her or her parents? it doesn't even have to be "what's your religion?" But "Why do you cover your hair?" or "Would it be ok if we made jewelry together?"
She might be muslim. Islam requires men and women to dress "modestly." What that means is determined by culture. Or she may be a non-muslim but from a culture that feels it is immodest for a woman to show her hair.

You can ask her personally about her religion. We could not just conclude for the reason that we have not seen the girl and we do not have personal contact with her.

Why not ask HER what faith she practices.
Islam is widespread and very prevalent in Africa.
Socio-Religious customs vary from culture to culture.

I am not sure if her actions are based on religion. I would ask her what her beliefs are, then ask more detailed questions to make sure you do not offend her beliefs.
