Panduranga - It is very difficult to answer your question. Because Cancer is still an enigma and the exact reason for getting any or a particular cancer is not known. Smocking is one of the definite reasons for getting Lung cancer and other health problems. Many chain smokers do not get cancer - that does not mean or guarantee you that you will not get cancer by smoking. Researchers have found vital link between smoking and cancer.

So be a good boy and listen to what all say on this. Now Panduranga, please read this -

* Cigarette smoking causes 87 percent of lung cancer deaths and is responsible for most cancers of the larynx, oral cavity and pharynx, esophagus, and bladder.
* Secondhand smoke is responsible for an estimated 3,000 lung cancer deaths among U.S. nonsmokers each year . * Tobacco smoke contains thousands of chemical agents, including over 60 substances that are known to cause cancer.
* The risk of developing smoking-related cancers, as well as noncancerous diseases, increases with total lifetime exposure to cigarette smoke.
* Smoking cessation has major and immediate health benefits, including decreasing the risk of lung and other cancers, heart attack, stroke, and chronic lung disease.-

This is as per the notification issued by National Cancer institute, United States of America-

ARE YOU KIDDING ME! HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING IN A VACUUM OR WHAT! OF COURSE IT IS INJURIOUS TO THE HUMAN BODY. EVEN SECOND HAD SMOKE IN ANY AMOUNT IS GOING TO HURT YOU. THAT IS AS PER THE SURGEON GENERAL.
No. Not all cancer patients are smokers. Sometimes drinking, stress poor diet (high in meat and dairy products) are the main causes. Bottom line is anyone at anytime can get cancer.

Yes, smoking is very bad for your health.

"Cancer" is a term that describes a range of various related diseases. Most cancers take the form of a tumor. But there are many different kinds of cancer. For example one form of skin cancer is melanoma. Smoking will not cause melanoma. Smoking can cause lung cancer.

We don't fully understand cancerous tumors. Certain behaviors, diets, exposures to chemicals (asbestos, agent orange, etc.) can increase you odds of getting a particular type of cancer.

You can get lung cancer and not smoke. Maybe you are exposed to other's smoke (so called "second hand smoke"). Maybe you are exposed to pollutants in the air?

Smoking can cause all sorts of other health problems. My father smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day. He died of heart failure, but the heart failure was ultimately caused by chronic pneumonia, which was caused by smoking. So Cancer is not the only health risk of smoking.

Why would you want to get yourself addicted to a substance that costs you money and ruins your health? Smoking has never made sense to me.

Yes smoking is injurious to one's health and a cause of cancer but not all cancer patients are smokers. Cancer can be hereditary or environmental as well.

Not all cancer patients are smokers.

There is a link between smoking and some types of cancer.

My mom had squamous-cell lung cancer, pneumonia, and peripheral arterial disease. The American Cancer Society phone person said that squamous-cell lung cancer was a "smoker's cancer," presumably from the percentage of squamous-cell lung-cancer patients who were or had been smokers rather than the percentage of smokers who went on to develop squamous-cell lung cancer.

Kaiser didn't seem to be blaming the squamous-cell lung cancer on the smoking. (!?) They blamed the pneumonia on inactivity from her having been ill, and they blamed the peripheral arterial disease directly on the smoking. And it was because of the peripheral arterial disease that they recommended that we take her off the respirator and let her go. (The treatment for PAD is amputation. They did not think she was a good candidate for amputation because they weren't certain she would survive under anesthesia that long, plus she had a generally poor prognosis.)

Cancer is a malignancy caused by many different toxins to the body. Not all cancer patients are smokers. It depends on where the cancer is. Go to americancancersociety.com, this website has a lot of information that you may find interesting.

it can cause cancer, but all cancer patients are not smokers, second hand smoke is just as dangerous as smoking yourself. Smoking also causes other lung related problems including COPD, and Emphysema, which can be even more painful and less treatable than cancer.

Yes and no. Smoking causes cancer because it has carcinogens in it that can cause cancer. But cancer can also be caused by genetic problems, so not everyone with cancer is a smoker.
