Thank you. I will try and figure out if this is set in the wrong mode. I purchased this from someone who had been using it from my neck of the woods.

I am not using component video. My TV does not have component.
I disconnected SVIDEO and plugged in yellow. I thought svideo was supposed to take the place of yellow connection. Am I not remembering something? Thank you all for your help.

The cable is bad. One of the pins is bent.
Replace the cable.
A trip to your local audio store will fix your problem.

Yes. Just sing the old song with new words:
Old song
The hip bone connected to the thigh bone...
New song
The yellow plug connected to the yellow plug
The green plug connected to the green plug,
The blue plug connected to the blue plug,
The red plug connected to the red plug

Get the picture? In color? No? Sing the song again.

(song does not include the red and white audio plugs)

You might have bought the wrong system - PAL/NTSC. If you are in the US - it should be NTSC. Europe uses PAL.
