This past Sunday I was baptized for the first time and was prayed over. I suddenly had a fit of uncontrollable laughter. I didn't understand what was happening. This is a first for me. What does this mean? I have read a lot of conflicting views on this.

To clarify, it happened when I was being prayed over an hour after my baptism. Thank you for the encouraging words. I was reading all kinds of stuff against holy laughter, so i was concerned.

We were Praying and the Holy spirit was Blessing in our evening services Sunday. When we were through Praying 2 or 3 of us were Laughing because of the great things that God was doing for us. Praise God! Amen

A sincere person that is Blessed by the Holy Spirit should not be ashamed.

Psalm 126
1When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.

2Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.

3The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.

It seems you will get conflicting views on practically anything from practically anyone! This is no different, as you can see.

Bottom line, my friend, is that you asked a very good question that I doubt anyone can give "the" difinitive answer to. You could have laughed for a wide variety of reasons, from a rush of joy to a flash of insecurity. Even you don't know exactly why it happened, so how can anyone else?

I don't see anything in the concordance of my Bible listing "uncontrollable laughter during baptism" so I can't say with certainty your laughter was Holy-Spirit-influenced (with all due respect to the good folks who believe it was). But I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Laughter in general is a good thing and a blessing, so unless God convicts you one way or another, I would channel my energies into making new discoveries in your post-baptism life about what God is trying to reveal about Him to you.

And just think, someday in the future, you'll look back at the whole experience you had last Sunday....and LAUGH! :-)

Laugh uncontrollably if you must but always share your joy with others so that they may enjoy as well.

Is there not joy in being baptized for the first time?
Is there not joy to be prayed over by many?
Is there not joy to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
Is there not joy in preparing for a life in God's Kingdom?
Is there not joy to be in the presence of Jesus?

That happened to me after receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost. It was "joy unspeakable and full of glory". It really was the most amazing thing....I just felt pure joy for hours. It was a gift from the Holy Spirit, don't let anyone convince you there was anything wrong with your experience. :))

Baptism is the washing away of sins committed. In your action when being baptized you said that you keep on laughing which means tht you are so happy to be baptized at last. You did not say where you were baptized and who baptied you and the place where were baptized.. If you were not baptized from a running water or your were not soak to the baody of water , it means that you were baptized in a wrong way.

Could have been overwhelming joy, could have been nervousness. You are really the only one that knows that answer.

You and God know whether or not you have sincerely put your trust in Jesus Christ and your life will be the proof of the sincerity of that decision.

Congrats, on making your decision to follow Christ public.

I wouldn't dwell too much on this laughter outburst. Just stay focused on Christ and His Word as you move forward in your spiritual journey.

Simple, you felt good.
Laughter is a form of praise and worship.

Congratulations!!

(Although, I'm a little concerned with your statement about being 'baptized for the first time' - how many times are you going to do this?)

It was your soul and spirit connecting with the Holy Spirit.

Now.... you know that you know that you know...

Your self... your being... your spirit was filled to overflowing...

Laughter was a natural reaction of great joy!

Congrats!!!

Many people laugh during solemn moments. My daughter-in-law has the uncontrollable urge to laugh at funerals. It is a form of nervousness but nothing to be concerned over.
