My husband just deployed three weeks ago and I am trying to figure out what to get him that won't take up space. I already sent one box and it was mostly food and some pictures. But I am wondering what would you have enjoyed to get while stuck on a ship? Oh, he also just got picked up for 3rd. so I am trying to think of good ideas for congratulations. I already buy him video games each month so nothing along those lines. He already has an Ipod and his command is giving them cameras. And his birthday is in January. That is when I want the box to arrive. I know how long it takes. And this is our first deployment.
What do you think about the FSG sending a bowling set (plastic) for the command to make a "bowling league"? They are on a carrier.
Any ideas for the FSG to send to them also? We are just trying to find some ways to aleaviate the stress being gone over the holidays.

Oh he is a Yoemen and works nights and doesn't lift weights just runs on the treadmills and rides the stationary bike

I feel for ya. I spent a few years aboard the USS Enterprise. Underway, we keep REAL busy... 19-20 hour days. I was a Damage Controlman, but I don't know your Husband's rate.
There is a gym on the ship. Does he use it? If so, maybe lifting gloves or something like that.
DON'T send him nudity pictures of you. It's not forbidden, but unless you want some of his shipmates to see what the stork saw...
It's great that you keep him supplied w/ games and the such. But food is always welcome. We don't always get that Home-cooked taste when the galley is making a meal for 5500 sailors! I hope this helps.
P.S.: Congrats on making 3rd Class! I made rate my first time up!

To me, that seems like a lot of money to be shipping back and forth so many times. The postal service is good, but the more the use it, the more likely you are to have a problem. Do you really want to have that problem when you're talking about something that cost you $200? I would suggest that you record your video and put it on a flash drive and send that instead. As an added bonus, it's a lot cheaper to mail a tiny little drive than a whole camera. Then he can record on a webcam and send a video back to you. Just being in the "Military" section doesn't imply perfect knowledge of all military matters, so no, not everyone here would have any idea of the limitations of Naval vessels. Skype is a perfectly reasonable suggestion for some deployments and not for others.

My best friend was in the Navy 20 years and they used to sit 'pool side' with a small plastic blow up pool. Not sure where he's deployed but I know it lightened the spirit. What about some Christmas music or some nostalgic compositions; home made cookies or fruit; lots of reading material - hand held DVD player; movies of you celebrating waiting for him; handmade cards from you to him.
