Why do so few people see the difference between homosexuality and pedophilia?

I've often heard the argument that if homosexuals are permitted to have sex, then what's the difference in allowing pedophiles to molest minors.
Putting aside the "Is homosexuality OK?" debate aside entirely, there is a MASSIVE difference between homosexuality and pedophilia. Pedophilia is not sexual relations between to consenting parties...it is forced and without consent.
Why do so many people not see the difference?

I couldn't agree with you more. I was the victim of a paedophile for eleven years, he was married (to my mother) and obviously heterosexual - no part of what he was doing to me or my brother or sister was related to homosexuality, it was purely the actions of a predator paedophile.

As a grown woman I have many homosexual friends of both sexes and they are definately not predatorial or potential paedophiles, they are some of the most horrified at what is happening (and has happened) to our children.

I think the distortion comes about because of the taboos surrounding both of these "labels". Throughout the ages both topics have been "off limits" to general conversation and not acceptable to flaunt in public.

However there are no similarities between the two and hopefully as society continues to evolve to fully accept homosexuality as it should, we will become increasingly aware of just how WRONG paedophilia is and the gap between the two will become the cavernous divide it truelly is.

I have heard this argument several times. This is a common thing said in a lot of conservative churches and it is extremely irratating. Some people have a misconception that only boys are molested by men and therefore these men are gay. A very distorted concept. However, many of these men are not gay they are actually married and a lot of the children abused are both boys and girls and they are not only abused by men but also by women.

So associating homosexuality with pedophilia is absurd in itself. Some simple research and understanding will expell these false assumptions for the feable and foolish minded.

Pedophilia is, ironically, a problem when the person who is having sexual contact with minors feels discomfort or has emotional problems with it. According to the psychological diagnostic manuals it isn't only the physical contact but the emotional problems it causes the adult. So if the adult isn't feeling emotional distress then technically it isn't a problem.

This is really screwed up. You must be careful to say it is forced and without conset. An 18 year old could have sexual contact with a 12 year old and it not be forced and it could be consenting but by law it is pedophilia but the person may not have any emotional distress about it so it is really pedophilia?

There is scientific evidence already established that homosexuality occurs because of biological processes. This means Allah designed it. It is not a theory, the science is already showing that. Please do some research. I'm not going to do it for ignorant haters anymore, but it is available and has been posted in this section many times over the past few months. Pedophilia is completely different, it is a mental health disorder that involves raping children and you should be extremely ashamed for comparing the two. You owe many good people I know an apology. Younger men marrying older women and younger women marrying older men is not pedophilia. Pedophilia invovles boys and girls being with men and women, it is not the same as an adult cross-generational relationship.

We don't say that they are the same, we say this: on what basis would you argue against the pedophile? Isn't he/ she just doing (like the gay person) what they are genetically predisposed to do?

So there is an innocent victim involved, but what is the victim is 13? 14? Aren't they old enough? What if the perpetrator is 18 and the victim 13? How is that 5-year age difference any different than that of a 35 y/o man and an 30 y/o woman, so long as they both WANTED to have sex?

You, no doubt, will come up with arbitrary points about the sexual maturity of a 13y/o or 14 y/o, but face it: you have placed yourself in the role of "god" deciding how old is old enough, or how much if an age difference is appropriate on no other basis other than you think it's right.

The proof? In such a world of situational ethics you defend, the very sort of "pedophliac" activities are acceptable in certain cultures around the world, so there you go, imposing your western imperialistic values on some tribe somewhere where it is acceptable for a 12 y/o girl to be married off as the 3rd or 4th wife of a tribal chief. But to you, I presume that you would deem that as wrong. How prescient of you!

For the sake of this question, need we also put aside the "Is pedophilia OK?" debate as well?

If so, the only difference is the specific age laws of that state. Rape is rape, and it doesn't matter if it's between a heterosexual man and woman or a homosexual man and man or any adult and any minor (age as determined by that state). The issue of at what point has someone given consent is really gray. There's "seduction", "date rape", "sex with someone who's drunk... but 'wanted' it", and "a 12 year old who 'wanted' or maybe even initiated it".

To God, any sex is supposed to be between a man and his wife. Sure, there's a difference between homosexuality, pre-marital heterosexual sex, pedophilia, necrophilia, bestiality, sex with multiple partners, orgies, wife-swapping, sex with inanimate dolls, and any others I've missed. But there is a similarity as well - it's all sin in God's eyes, and as such Christians should not condone it. And yes, that means actually voting against any governmental recognition of it as "OK".

It really pisses me off when some people always assume that a Paedophile is Gay, or even Bi. The MAJORITY of Paedophiles are in fact HETEROSEXUAL and BOTH Sexes, as in Males AND Females! Yes, i'm sure there are some Gay and Bi people who are Paedophiles, but like i said before, the majority are Heterosexual. FACT!

I totally agree with you. It makes me so angry when people say things like that. In no way are they the same or even similar!

gay bashers should be treated in the same way as racists and locked up instead of being cautioned and sent back out to do worse things.
