Your cover letter should generally outline your interest in the position, how you found out about the position, your experience or highlight certain qualifications in your resume that will spark the recruiter's interest. You also want to make sure you mention the company, if you know more information about the company it benefits you to mention where your work ethic will tie in with the company specifically and thank the company for their consideration.

It should only be two or three brief paragraphs and properly headlined with the company's address...like any letter your name will go at the bottom etc...if you need a more direct example of what a cover letter should look like. go to careerbuilder.com....anytime you apply for a job it has an option to include a cover letter and since you do not have one, it will show you an example of what a cover letter should look like and the format. If you don't want to do all that you can just email me and I will send you a word document of what it looks like. Hope this helps, take care...

I am a hiring professional, today I don't even read the cover pages anymore. However, in some job positions, specifically in small business it is still traditionary to use a cover letter. There are many examples and templates you can use on the web. It is a chance to tell the employer specifically what you can offer him and why you are the best candidate for his/her opening. check what's out there, you'll be suprised at how easy they are to write.

Introduction to Cover Letters
There are three general types of cover letters:

The application letter which responds to a known job opening (sample cover letters)
The prospecting letter which inquires about possible positions (sample prospecting letter)
The networking letter which requests information and assistance in your job search (sample networking letter)
Your cover letter should be designed specifically for each purpose outlined above as well as for each position you seek. Do not design a form letter and send it to every potential employer (you know what you do with junk mail!). Effective cover letters explain the reasons for your interest in the specific organization and identify your most relevant skills or experiences (remember, relevance is determined by the employer's self-interest).
