What you are asking for may be a little to advanced for you, for now.

Try using Blue K > Add / Remove... then, choose a category on the sidebar. Browse through the available programs and click the check box to install.

How to install, as Root, from a Tarball:

# tar -xzvf (package-name).tar.gz
# cd (package-name)
# ./configure
# make
# make install

tar file in linux is like a zip file in windows... Use Konquorer to extract the tar file. Also, Kubuntu has a desktop guide. Do a search for this guide, and I'm sure you can download it and view it.

Like certainly one of the different posters mentioned some human beings "have issues" with ati drivers by way of fact they do no longer use the ubuntu thank you to place in and save them uptodate. in case you stick to the ubuntu instructions you have little concern with the ati proprietary drivers. you haven't any longer given us sufficient info that may assist you come back to a call regardless of if to place in the proprietary drivers or no longer. the cardboard will paintings without the drivers yet once you prefer to run 3-D apps and use the optimal eye candy available with compizfusion you will need the drivers. it certainly relies upon which apps and eye candy you prefer to run. there is not any "threat" on your gadget by potential of utilising the ati drivers. you need to deploy the drivers and in case you later come to a call which you do no longer want them or they are too plenty hassle to replace you may get rid of them and bypass returned to the hassle-loose drivers provided by potential of ubuntu. good success
