“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it." Matthew 10:37-39

It means that God must be more important than any other family tie you can have. Also, the end part is talking about finding yourself wrapped up in this life, will only lead to destruction... however giving over your life to the will of God, will lead to eternal life.

One view of Jesus's teachings is that he believed there was going to be a big change in the universe very soon. Everything he said and did can be seen to support this belief. In the new world to come, the rich would be poor and the poor rich, so Jesus treated the rich like poor and vice versa. There would be no sickness or death in this new world so Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead. Women would have the same status as men, so Jesus treated women just as men, which in his day was a sort of radical feminism. He told people with money to get rid of it quick!

And surprisingly, Jesus was not big on 'family values'. Perhaps he encouraged children to leave their parents, wives to leave their husbands, etc., because in the new world families wouldn't exist either!

There is a place in the gospels (I forget where but I could look it up) where some men try to trick Jesus. Suppose a woman's husband dies and she marries again, and suppose she has several husbands this way, one after the other. If all the men are there in Heaven, which one is her husband? Jesus answered this by saying that marriage doesn't exist in Heaven. Perhaps he believed families wouldn't exist either?

Mat 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Mat 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
Mat 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
It means that Jesus is more than anybody else If you love your father, mother, your daughter or your son more than you love Jesus. you are nothing to Jesus chris and even the man who will just follow Jesus wiyth in his own for his personal safety is not welcome to Jesus but a man who do not care for his life inorder to look for jESUS WILL BE SAVED BECAUSE HE IS WORTHY to God.

he should be the first priority in ur life above everyone (and after u put him first everything will fall into place). If u choose the life this world offers then u'll lose the life God has prepared for u in heaven.

It means God wants our "ALL". He gave us our mom & dad, our friends. All that we have around us and even the breath we take. He also gave us free will, to choose weather to realize that "He Is" all that we have and when this world ends for us like it does for everyone else, did we "will" to accept Him as our God. He will still be with us in the end if we ask Him to be now. Still love your mom and dad , God gave you them. In Mathew Jesus is saying to realize that He died on the cross for you, to save you from your death in sin. Read about Him in His Word and follow His ways. He loves you so much, that He knows the count of hairs on your head. I hoped that helped clarify things for you. - Peace

i would say jesus is saying your loyalty is to me. when you die if you don't go looking for him and want to find him he will not just appear. what we do on earth is a means to a end. where jesus is there is no end. he might want to get across our life hear is but the blinking of a eye in comparison to where he is. take your cross i think means to work through your troubles the way he has shown. his sake was his message follow his message you have eternity. in good light.

When I was younger this verse used to always confuse me, but I think that it is not supposed to be taken completely literally.
What this is saying is that you should love God and devote everything to him. Do not put things of the world before him. If God wants you to do something do not say "but i want to do this". I think he is just saying devote your life to him and don't let the things of the world get in the way of serving him.

It means that you don't put others before God. God comes first, then others. If you do not follow God, obeying His word, then you are of the world and the world is more important to you than God. If one puts the world before God, then He will not receive God's forgiveness and salvation, but if one gives up his/her worldly life and turns to God for forgiveness and professes Christ as his/her Savior, then they have found life - spiritual life.

The scripture teaches us that though we have important relationships in our lives we should not let them dictate our worship. He taught to follow him and he promised to show the proper way to worship God our Father. If we arn't willing to sacrifice that is impossible. Often it is those clossest to us that will be the most antagonistic towards our following the truth.

God bless.
