Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I wet my dog with the hose the other day as it was really hot, as soon as i let him go he started to walk funny, like he couldn't use his back legs. But as soon as he was dry he was like nothing had happened. Can you tell me what happened and what the cause is and if its serious.
Thanks for your help

He is like 3+ years old. I don't think it was a sesure. It was more like he was paralised and couldnt walk. I've had him bathed by professionals and he's never done it.

Dogs can be quirky. My dog hates having cold feet in the winter, so we bought him snow shoes. (We determined he hated snow when he would run outside hit a patch of ice - and run back inside, only to have an accident later). It is now an endless source of amusement when we put these shoes on him. For the first five minutes he forgets how to walk. Then once he finally realizes he can move, he walks like a moron. Sort of like a side ways kick every time he takes a step.
maybe your dog just doesn't like soggy paws?!

It is possible your dog has a condition called myasthenia gravis, which is a heritable neurologic condition. Often that is what it looks like -- after a great deal of activity, your dog will suddenly appear weak and unable to walk. You would require a trip to the vet to have this diagnosed by what is called a tensilon test. If that's what it is, there are drugs out there that can treat it.
There are some other differentials, too, but that would be at the top of my list from your description. You should take him to your vet for an exam.

I agree it could Be few things but, you said it was really hot outside , i am assuming that you used cold water, i know when a person or dog gets to hot and you put d\cold water on them it shocks the system, causing a the body's core temp. to go down to fast. but the body recovers very fast and all is fine in the end. next time i would slowly introduce the water spraying the head last allowing the body to adjust slowly, and see if that helps,

Can you describe funny? My dog stumbles a bit on his back end when I bathe him because he's trying to escape and shake at the same time. I doubt it's a seizure, you can ask the vet though. Next time wash him see if he does it again and then run water down his back and towel dry to see if he does it after being partially dried.

That happened to my dog.It was just that it was the first time i had wetted her. It depends is it a pup or a dog. It just got a little dizzy from the water.

Maybe he got a bit of a fright and really tensed up causing him to walk funny.

Go to the vet. Sounds like an ear infection.

That is strange. My best guess is that your dog dosen't like to be wet and so was walking funny.
But you were there so you have to judge how your dog reacted. Great luck
