Yes for all religions.Meditation is to increase the process of purification of mindset.Purification of mindset can be in all forms and should not be restricted to only meditation.It can be through prayer.Many ways to one.

i do not meditate as well or as often as i would like, but when i take time to sit and quiet my mind i find that i feel better, less stressed and more clear headed

yes it is important for you before or after you leave your house to go anywhere you supposed to meditate ask God for his help, and also for protection.
