Well, if the cat swallows a flea he can get tapeworms. Tapeworm eggs live in fleas, and when the flea is ingested the tapeworm egg will hatch out in the cat's intestines.

If your cat has flea, it's fairly likely he has tapeworm too. Get proper flea and worming treatment from a vets.

The drug in Droncit/Drontal for tapeworms, praziquantel, is now over the counter and comes in several brand names. Any cat that is exposed to fleas or catches mice should be dewormed with praziquantel at least 3 times per year, and should also be on a monthly flea preventative (like Frontline Plus or Advantage).

The fleas lay eggs, the cat licks the fur, not only ingesting the flea but the larvae, causing tape worm. Get the meds from the vet. (over the counters products, don't work) and also get Advantage from the vet. ( over the counter flea control is dangerous to your pet.)
