Two months ago I was diagnosed with lyme disease. About a month after my diagnosis, I was too exhausted and in too much pain to work. I told my job that I needed to take some time off to rest and my doctor wrote them a letter. However, it's been three weeks now and I am still unable to go to work. Can someone explain to me how collecting unemployment or disability works? Or what I need to qualify? Or at least direct me to a website that could help? THANKS!

Well, you're not going to qualify for unemployment - you voluntarily left employment, and are not able to work.

Regarding disability, there's usually a wait period. It can be a month, it can be six months. So you'll have to look at your policy, and see what the wait period is. If you're looking for social security disability, I seriously doubt this will qualify. The website to look at is www.socialsecurity.gov

You are only eligible for unemployment if you are able to work - and it sounds like you can't. There are many types of disability. Some employers provide disability policies, and some people get them on their own. Each policy has its own rules on what conditions must be met to collect benefits.

Social security disability has its own rules - your disability must be permanent or long-term to be eligible.
