if he is replacing all the tile and ripping up old tile, replacing and removing old cabinets, replacing toilet , tub and vanity. also painting you are probably paying a fair price. but you should get other estimates unless this guy has a good name and you know for sure he does good work. good luck

You should get three bids for the job. Make sure everyone is bidding on the same items.

Find out what's included and what is not included.

Is he licensed to do the work?
Is he insured?
Does he have employees? Worker's comp?

All of these things cost money and help protect you.

Think about it this way? 80 hours (two weeks work) at $50.00 per hour is $4000.00.

$50.00 per hour is not outrageous for the skills it takes to tear apart a bathroom and put it back together correctly. Plumbers are over $100.00 per hour here and Electricians are over $75.00 per hour here.

a contractor has to do work by specification, by codes, and by all means they better have insurance. if you're talking about gutting the walls and ceiling w/a new floor, etc. then, personally your bid is good. I charge $85 per s.f. However, if it's a matter of replacing utilities (bathtub, etc) and painting walls, get another bid. They're crazy!

that's about $75 per square foot...a little high, but depending on your location, maybe not so high. Also, we don't know what all you are re-doing.....if you are adding expensive features or reworking plumbing, electrical, etc.....those costs add up.....typically, however, unless you are in a very costly area, the average runs about $70-72 per sq/foot.
