When an RPG hits a surface flush it forms a molten stream of metal that is capable of penetrating Armored Vehicles. (Liquefied Metal Burns a whole though vehicle)

The "Cage" will do two things. If the rocket hits the cage flush or solidly it will cause the rocket to engage the cage as opposed to the side of the vehicle. If the rocket is forced between the cage, while passing through it the rocket is damaged and is rendered much weaker and improves the survivability rate of the crew of the vehicle greatly.

An RPG works in the sense that the pointy part of the rocket will make contact with the side of a vehicle and will act as a conduit for the explosive in the rest of the rocket to be centralized in an intense point attack against the armor of the vehicle.

If you want to see the really bad a$$ armor piercers look up "SABOT Round" and "EFP". There is not much armor in the world that can stop those on a consistent basis.

Those cages catch RPG (rocket propelled grenade) rounds in flight. It prevents them from exploding against the hull which minimizes the damage.

those are to protect from RPGs. The rockets detonate when they hit that tube perimeter, and explode harmlessly (a very relative term, mind you) on the outside, and all the crew/soldiers on the inside remain safe.

It stops rockets from hitting the hull and predetonates them so they cannot penetrate the vehicle itself.
