Hi sis!

No, you didn't get baptized in the wrong name. Let's have a look at this:

1. The word baptize was a common word in Jesus' day. It was used especially when dying fabrics. Say you wanted to make a piece of white fabric red. You would then baptize it into the red water. i.e. you would completely immerse the cloth into the water and afterwards the red would be in the cloth forever. They have become ONE. You cannot separate them.

2. In the Greek, the word translated as "in" in the phrase "baptize in the name..." actually means INTO. So, you have to be completely immersed INTO the Name of Jesus, never to be the same again afterwards - for you will be ONE in covenant union, bearing His Name - just like in a marriage - from that time forth.

3. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit...

Something I have noticed that is very interesting is that Acts 2:38 was directed by Peter to Jews, but in Matthew 28:19 Jesus is talking about all the nations, i.e. including the Gentiles who did not know God at all. The Gentiles had no covenant with God. The Jews did not need to be introduced to God the Father - they already knew Him because of their covenant through Abraham. The Jews needed to become one with Jesus and to receive the Holy Spirit. The Gentiles who did not know God at all - who were complete outsiders to the covenants - were the ones who did need to know God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Peter was explaining to the Jews who had just realized that they had crucified their Messiah how they could be saved. To be saved you must become one with God by being completely immersed into the Name of Jesus. It is like Noah and the Ark. To be saved Noah needed to be completely immersed into the Ark.

Baptism isn't about the WATER. It is about the covenant union - you becoming one with God.

Remember also that Jesus and the Father are ONE. So, when you are in covenant union with Jesus you ARE one with the Father too.

Once you are immersed into Jesus you can then be baptized into the Holy Spirit just like what happened in Acts 2. This is separate from salvation but not essential to be saved.

Acts 8:14-17 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

The disciples in Acts 8 were saved before they were baptized into the Holy Spirit. But afterwards they were empowered to do the same works that Jesus did.

I hope this helps. God bless you.

“In the name of…” means according to the authority of or according to the instructions.

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all in one accord on the things they teach. The Father did not command one baptism and the Son another. “There is… one baptism”. (Ephesians 4:4-5)

When you have followed the instructions of Christ, you have also followed the instructions of the Father and the Holy Spirit, therefore, to be baptized in the name of Christ, is to be baptized as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit have authorized.

Those baptized in the name of Christ have been baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, even if those particular words were not spoken!

The authority of Christ and the authority of the Godhead cannot be separated. Christ’s authority comes from the Godhead. (Matthew 28:18-20) In fact, it is through the instructions of Christ that we know we need to be baptized for the remission of our sins! (Mark 16:16, Matthew 28:18-20, read Luke 24:47 along with Acts 2:5 & 38)

Since the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are one, and you realize you are being baptized for the forgiveness of your past sins, and that you will become a Christian as you are baptized, it does not make any difference what someone says. It is what you know that you are doing that counts. If you are being baptized to "join a church" your baptism is worthless and you need to start over and be baptized for the reason stated in the Bible. We are to be baptized into Him as we are baptized into His death, burial and resurrection.

Ac 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Don't let people confuse you. God told Peter what you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and what you lose on earth shall be loss in heaven. He aslo told Peter that he had the keys to the kingdom of God and he said upon this rock I shall build my church. What was Jesus talking about? He was talking about the revelation that Jesus was the Christ. Now in Mattew when he said babtizing them in the name of the father, well what is the fathers name if not Jesus. Did he not say I come in my fathers name? What is the name of the son, well obviously Jesus and wath is the name of the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit? Did not Jesus say I will send the comforter which is the Holy Ghost in my name (JESUS). Thats the reason why Peter said be baptize in Jesus name because he had the revelation. Also Acts 4:12 says for there is no other name given umong men under heaven where by we must be save. Bible also says what act or deed do all in the name of Jesus. Now let me ask you a question, is not father son holy spirit only titles? Did Jesus not say babtize in the name singular? Now if I write a check under the name of son because I am one can you cash it? NO, because the power is in the name. As far as the trinity is consern its funny that the bible never mentions trinity but through out the hole bible you will find Hear o Israel our Lord our God is ONE Lord. God said I am the first and the last in Isaiah and Jesus said I am alpha and omega the beginning and the end. Hum I wonder why? Because Jesus was God manefested in the flesh. Does not John 1:1 say in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God and in verse 14 it says and the Word became flesh and dwelt umong us. I Timothy 3 says with out contriversy great is the mystery of Godliness, God was maniffested in the flesh, seen of angels preach unto Gentiles. You see the bible says that God was the father in creation and the son in redemption and the holy ghost or spirit in regeneration. You need to find a church that preaches One God, Jesus name baptism with evidence of speaking in tungs just like the bible says. Many will say its not true but if the apostle did it and God does not change why cant we also have the same experience? I hope this helps.

God is said to be in 3 forms: The Father, Son and Holy ghost. The Father is God, the Son is Jesus and the Holy Ghost is what enters into your heart once you accept Jesus and you savior. So youre ok!

I don't think you were baptized under the wrong name. Jesus Christ is part of the trinity. It's all the same God. Jesus is the "Son" in what you were baptized. It's just a different way of saying it.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit are not names, and Jesus stated to baptize in the call. So needless to say He meant for one call for use. He advised us in Luke that repentance and remission of sins would desire to be preached in His call, and Acts 4:12 tells us there isn't any different call under heaven given between men by utilising which we would desire to be saved. Col. 3:17 tells us that in spite of we do in notice or deed, we would desire to constantly do all in the call of Jesus. Peter needless to say understood the command of Matthew 28:19 to communicate over with a single call, and consequently he steered the gang to be baptized in Jesus' call. The apostles constantly baptized this sort, in no way repeating the titles Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (See Acts chapters 2, 8, 10 and 19)

Well Acts 2:38 activists would say if You are not baptized in Jesus Name as in "I baptize you in Jesus Name" then you weren't truly baptized. Some would go so fart as to say if you arent baptized you will perish.

Now others say that in Jesus Name is by Jesus' authority. For instance, "Satan, I command you to leave in Jesus' Name!" Or "Satan, I command you to leave by the authority of Jesus!"

keep this in mind.

A sinner can get go under the water and still come up a sinner. That which washes sin away is Jesus' blood.

From the answers I gather that getting baptized is like trying to win on Jeopardy. "Ummm, what is in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, Alex?"

You're right!!! Winner! Winner! Winner!
