My dog, Zoey, like when you scratch on her back by her tail. But when you get a closer look, there is a bunch of black stuff all over that area! It is so gross! I give her baths like 2 times a week but they are STILL there! I have a flea collar on her and she isn't old enough for frontline (I think). But it is just really gross. So anyone know what to do?

I would bet that that is flea dirt. Flea collars really dont work. I have found that even bathing with a flea shampoo wont really get rid of the fleas either. We had a REALLY bad flea problem with my yorkie a few months ago. Pus he is allergic to Frontline, so I had to find all new stuff to treat him with. Look into a pill called CapStar. It's perfectly safe for most dogs (even puppies - but I would ask your vet to be sure). It will kill al of the fleas on you pup in a matter of minutes and lasts for 24 hours and can be given daily. But I have to tell you, if there are fleas on your dog, thers is more than likely fleas in your yard and in your house. You need to ask like you are fighting a war - because it is. Find a flea powder and spray at your local store and powder all of te carpets in your house eveyday. Wash everything you can - everything your dog has been around, including your bedding. Anything you cant wash, you should spray down with the flea spray. Do this at least every other day. We had such a bad problem (because of our neighbor dogs) we had to have our yard professionally sprayed. I hope your situation isnt that bad.

They're still there because your dog still has fleas, and they're still pooing on your dog. Washing will get rid of flea dirts and wash off current fleas, but there's no point doing this because the dog will just get reinfested once dry! Plus all that bathing is probably going to just dry out your dog's skin.

Your dog is old enough for Frontline, just not the spot-on version. If he's under 8 weeks, you need the spray version, which can be used from 2 days of age.

I would get the flea collar off the dog pronto. It's fairly well known these days that flea collars don't work - all they do is ward fleas away from the neck area - pointless! They can often cause reactions, so get it off the dog if you don't want him losing hair round his neck, or worse.

Just get Frontline spray, or Frontline spot-on if the pup is over 8 weeks of age. Sounds like you also need to spray your house, because that's where the dog is getting reinfested from!

Take a piece of the dirt on a white napkin, paper towel (white surface) and add a drop of water. If it looks like blood (red or dark red), it's flea poop. You should either give her a flea dip or have the vet give her a flea dip. Then, use a flea bomb for the entire house-make sure to remove live animals.
