Well, being a Christian I would say is because its contents contain things we can still use for today and timeless truths and further tells of Jesus who has changed the lives of many people.

Now an Atheist of course would say anyone who believes in the Bible is delusional.

Why is the Bible one of the most shoplifted books?

The reason it is one of the bestselling books is because it has been translated into so many languages and has been around for so long (as well as all the different versions that fall under the title The Bible).

However, to say any one version is a Bestselling book is a misnomer. That is why you don't see it on the NY Times bestseller list week after week.

Dianetics has sold millions of copies and has been on the NY Times Bestseller list, does this make Scientology more valid in your eyes?

Did you just try to suggest that every Wiccan's BoS is the same and is sold in stores?!? Wow...you really know nothing about Wicca, do you... FYI, The Bible's been around longer than any of those other books. The printing press was invented in a highly Christian nation in a time period when everyone needed to have a Bible or risk looking like they worship Satan, and thus get put to death. Also it was the only book being printed in mass for years before anyother book was printed.

Because it's the major 'holy' book of the largest religion in the world. If Islam were the largest religion in the world, its book would be the best-selling. Believe it or not, some people feel like they're earning points for heaven just by buying that book. Brilliant mind-control, imho.

The Bible is translated into many languages. It appeals to Christians, people who wish to understand the religions of this world but are outside of Christianity, and people who just like to read books.

Because the Bible is the only 'holy book' that is truly inspired by God Himself... many books are written by some great person or other, but the Bible was composed by many people over several centuries--prophets, kings, shepherds, fishermen, farmers--all guided by the Holy Spirit of God. So the Bible's uniqueness and power both relate back to how it came to be: not of human will, but of God's great love and desire to redeem humankind to Himself.

Because the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. - Heb 4:12

"Forget modern British novelists and TV tie-ins, the Bible is the best-selling book every year. If sales of the Bible were included in best-seller lists, it would be a rare week when anything else would achieve a look in. It is wonderful, weird ... that in this godless age... this one book should go on selling, every month." - British TIMES, 1996

constantine making it the offical religion of the roman empire, the inquisition and the fact that for a significant part of human history, the pope and heads of the church were also leaders of their respective countries. How about we say that the bible is the best selling forced dogma of all times.
