i'm not sure what the equivalent of 3 tbsp. of meringue powder would be in cream of tartar. my first batch, something went wrong and my frosting is SUPER sour. it tastes horrible, and its not thick. help please?!?!

*also, can i use cream of tartar WITH something else to substitute for meringue powder? i can't really use egg whites, and its far too late to go to the store, i need this for tomorrow. thanks SO much

Not too late to use egg whites!

Beat three egg whites and 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tarter until foamy.
Gradually beat in 1/4 cup of sugar, beating until soft white peaks form.

Spread meringue over hot fillings and seal well to the crusts

Bake at 350* for ten minutes until light brown.
Or use a propane torch for quick results.

THE ONLY THING YOU NEED TO KNOW IS THIS.........
NO OILY SUBSTANCE CAN BE USED IN THE BOWL BEFORE YOU TRY TO WHIP MERINGUE SO USE A GLASS BOWL AFTER SCRUBBING THE BEj($!$ OUT OF IT!

Not too late, meringue is easy!

This is not going to work. You put just a tiny bit of cream of tartar into egg whites to help them hold up when you are making frosting. It's usually egg whites, sugar, maybe a little Karo white syrup, a little cream of tartar and a little salt and vanilla at the end. Cream of tartar is not a substitute or meringue power or egg whites.
