Have you ever noticed how Christians get up in arms and boycotts any movie that doesn't portray god or Christ to their liking. Forget about free speech. But I don't think Atheists have ever boycotted a Christian movie, Or any movie. I guess we're to busy persecuting Christan's in other ways.

"The Golden Compass, a fantasy film starring Nicole Kidman that is scheduled to be released into theaters on 7 December 2007, has been drawing fire from concerned Christians. The film is based on Northern Lights (released in the U.S. as The Golden Compass), the first offering in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy of children's books, a series that follows the adventures of a streetwise girl who travels
through multiple worlds populated by witches, armor-plated bears, and sinister ecclesiastical assassins to defeat the oppressive forces of a senile God."

Slave, i asked if the beer was cold and the pizza hot, no reply yet

the movie golden compass was published under another title, but was given this title for whatever reason. The story is about a child who is iven a compass that does not seek north, but rather seeks truth

it was written by an atheist who hates christians and hates C.S. Lewis and this is his attack on it

the problem is that it atttacks (roman catholics) organized religion that I myself do not support but it goes on to destroy the faith of children who would otherwise love Christ Jesus.

you are not killing God by watching it, you are only supporting the ;movie. I have seen the trailers and it looks pretty decent but it is toned down a lot

Slave, I can not tell you how to live and whether you believe in Jesus of the bible or not is your call. But for the christian, they have an obligation to honor the LORD God, Jesus and not watch it

The people boycotting the movie haven't read the books (there are 3 in the series, and The Golden Compass is book 1).

I'm halfway through the first book and there's nothing remotely "pro-atheism" about it. It's more or less like the Harry Potter books.

I really wish people would think for themselves rather than use the old stand by..."I'm not going to see it because I heard from somebody else who said....."

The Golden Compass is a book series that is kind of a counter to Narnia (it had christian undertones). The Golden Compass criticizes religion, and in the end of the third book, two children kill "god".

I got that email too. Try reading it all the way through. It doesnt say that you are killing god. It says that the movie is about killing god as it was written by an atheist who hates the christian religion.

ahh don't worry about it, there just protesting because the author of the books is an atheist. Same happened with the author of the Harry Potter series and countless other people who don't share the faith. Talk about free speech, but then when it comes to indoctrinating children in public schools, it's perfectly fine. The protest will never have an impact or take it off screen because people have a choice to watch it or not and is perfectly fine with amendment one. There is absolutely nothing Christians can do to take it off the screen.

Years ago, some Christians boycotted "Monty Python's Life of Brian". Christianity has always been very "thin-skinned" about anything that doesn't portray it in an absolutely favorable light. That's why a religion that demands unquestioning obedience doesn't mix well with western democratic ideals that encourage freedom of thought and expression.
