I want your opinion on the Church of Christ. I please ask that you don't form your opinions off those churches that are a part of the Boston Restoration Movement. (i.e.- churches with instrumental music, preach on an earthly kingdom for eternity, ect.) No profanity please!

I am a member of the Church of Christ, and the Church of Christ is part of the "restoration movement". This is different from the "Boston movement".

Some of the things you mentioned with the Boston movement are a departure from the restoration plea that churches of Christ embrace! There is no New Testament authorization for these departures.

Instead the plea of churches of Christ is to return to the Bible and restore the church described in that Holy Book! We wish to speak where the Bible speaks, be silent where the Bible is silent, do Bible things in Bible ways, and call Bible things by Bible names.

There is not one man-made doctrine we can add to the Word of God that would improve it. In fact, the Bible forbids adding to, taking away from, or distorting God's word. (Deut. 4:2, Prov. 30:6, Gal. 1:6-9, Rev. 22:18-19) The Bible is all we need for our doctrine. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:3)

Notice that Jesus has "all authority" and the apostles were to teach the things He had commanded. (Matthew 28:18-20) This is what we should do! If we follow the authority of a man-made doctrine, then Christ no longer has "all authority" in our religious lives.

If we are "teaching as doctrine the commandments of men" then our worship is "vain", or useless in God's eyes. (Matthew 15:9) "We ought to obey God rather than men!" (Acts 5:29)

We should be satisfied to teach what God's word says (Col 3:17)! This is the plea of the Church of Christ.

My "opinion" about the church is not what is most important. The most important consideration is what does God think! To find out, read what His word says!

My opinion of the Church of Christ is very poor.

I have attended one with my Husband for three years, because that is where he wants to go. I can't go anymore however because I can't stand it.

First of all, the elders tried to talk him out of marrying me in the first place without even knowing me. I was married before, to a man that became an alcoholic and drug abuser who decided to go get drunk with his buddies every night until 4am, run around with other women all the time, denounce God, become an atheist, and punch me for taking dirty girl pictures off his computer or turning off his computer while he's chatting with... other girls. So, I let him divorce me when he wanted to.

But now, because my Church of Christ Husband married me, they will not use him at all. They do not associate with us and told him that if he marries me we are both doomed to hell and will be commiting adultery every day the rest of our lives. This particular string of Churches have "volunteer" speakers that preach each week (I sortof like this part). What I don't like are the messages. They preach that anyone going to any other Church than the ones listed on the website baptism.org are going to hell. They also preach that you are sinful and going to hell if you have Christmas trees or use the Cross as a religions symbol, calling them both idols.

The Church of Christ I am familiar with is very judgemental and uncaring. They do not minister to the community, they have no Children's Ministry, no Youth Group, no Sunday School, no Musical Instruments (because they think all the former would doom you to hell).

They actively practice shunning if you leave the Church or attend anywhere else.

They honestly think they are the only ones going to Heaven.

I see them as a "stone-throwers" and judgemental and extremely narrow minded and brainwashed. I learn from my Bible that God is loving and forgiving and thou shall not judge others but look in the mirror first. God will be the ultimate judge at the gate and it is not for anyone on earth to judge who is or isn't going to heaven.

I believe that many members from many different religions and congregations will be in heavan, all worshipping and loving the same God. There is no one perfect interpretation of the Bible.

I have began going to a different Church and my Husband thinks it is okay to divorce me for this. We have two children, 2 and 6 months.

I would never recommend anyone get tied up in a Church of Christ like the one I did. However, I do believe that there may be some good ones out there that are less cult-like, whether they use musical instruments and have Sunday School or not. Those are minute details in the grand scheme that is God's MasterPlan.

My only experience is dating the daughter of a C of C pastor who is very moderate. They're from Alabama.

Even though he knew I was atheist, he liked me a lot, never brought up faith and treated me like a son. Her mother liked me too but was a bit wary of my atheism.

So, must say my only encounter has been positive. But the poor pastor is always having to find new work because he's not rightwing, condemning or hateful.
