If you go to a regular ob/gyn you will most likely get a prescription for birth control. Other places like planned parenthood will give it to you on the spot after being examined. I have no experience with the patch but in my opinion I would be worried about loosing it all of the time. They say it stays on the whole week but if you are supposed to change it every week it evedently don't stay on that good. I have been on a birth control pill called Mircette and I've had the Depro Provera shot. The pill worked great for me. But I also have trouble remembering to take any kind of medicines. But not all people are like that. I had the shot after my first child. I was pumping milk for him while he was in the NICU and needed a birth control that wouldn't effect my milk supply. They suggested the mini pill or the shot. The mini pill had to be taken the exact same time every day to be effective so I declined that one knowing I had trouble remembering to take the pill. The shot worked great for me while I was pumping/breastfeeding. But as soon as I quit I really began to gain weight. I tried everything possible to loose weight. Changing my diet, diet pills, lots of exercise, not eating at all. And no matter what I did I still gained weight. Unfortunately no one told me that it caused weight gain. After 2 years on the shot, 5 of which I was breast feeding I gained almost 40 lbs. And as soon as my last shot wore off and I began a very simple diet plan I began to loose weight.

If you can remember to take a pill everyday around the same time of day every day I would suggest the pill. But if you can't and you aren't the type to gain weight easy I would try the Shot. It's easiest as long as you don't gain weight like I did. Plus not having the periods was nice (another side affect of the depro provera). As far as your insurance is concerned I'm not sure. I didn't use my insurance to get my Mircette. My mother-in-law gave them to me for free because she is head nurse in a doctor clinic and they always had too big of a supply of them. My BlueCrossBlueShield insurance did however pay for a portion of my shot.

You do need prescription for the pill.
Which type of pill works for you depends on your body and your health history- some women do great on three phasic pills, some need higher estrogen, some need very low dose. You need to see a doctor to determine which type is right for you.
Some insurance policies cover birth control, some don't.
There's no off the counter birth control pill, since it's Rx only.
Both the patch and the pill have advantages and disadvantages. Again, you really need to talk to a doctor.

First of all- Sex is not a "suspicious activity" someone has brainwashed you dear. Second- A GYN is not a pervy doctor, they are there to prevent you from getting cancer or diseases (not that you will need to worry about that as long as your future husband is a virgin too or you accompany him to his results appointment) Third- If you are waiting until marriage then you will most likely be the obedient wife that makes sure to provide her hubby with kids, and lots of them. By that time you will have had several, and probably a few different, Pervy Doctor's looking at ur cooch or do you plan on birthing at home. and if a family member (and/or the one's the brainwashed you) look at at it will they be pervs too? Last- There is no way that you will always be pure because you have already proved that you are not. You have judged GYNs as "pervy doctor's". I don't think that is very pure do you? Perhaps you should take that ring of yours and ....oh never mind, that will change your mind forever. Just loosen up a little ok?

Currently you need a prescription for them. However, they are part of a push for a behind the counter category of drugs. We'll have to wait and see what the FDA decides.

it depends on where you live. if you go to planned parenthood than no, they will give it to you on the spot. You need to be examined by a nurse/doctor either way to make sure you are given the right bc for you. I personally did not like that patch, it was itchy and left marks on my skin.
