Most of the time, they're either trying to show off or bully you. If you want, you could buy some hand grips and use them to strengthen your wrists, hands, and forearms so that you'll be able to return a really good squeeze when those jerk-offs do that.
However, some people are just stronger than they realize and may squeeze without realizing it. So giving the benefit of the doubt sometimes would be beneficial.

Hey, it's better than the limp handshake - gross!!
Being a woman, my dad taught me how to shake hands with a firm grip, not the limp noodle. I've had that happen to me when shaking hands with older women and it just makes me want to wash my hand.
I don't use the death grip but I sure would respect that more than the alternative.

Yea I feel ya, your supposed to have a strong hand shake with a little squeeze. but its based on the strength in persons hand.. so you don't end up hurting them...~~`because then that is rude..
