They don't BELIEVE in evolution, it is a fact. Genesis is a story and many people know that.

Some dont believe that evolution is a proven fact and evolution is still a theory. They believe the Bible is God's word and therefore "fact"

First of all, there are several ways to understand Genesis - http://www.christianity.co.nz/science7.htm
What does Genesis 1 really teach?
I am aware of seven different ways in which Genesis 1 is interpreted....
Second of all, while evolution within a species can be proved, the idea that
1. inanimate matter was organized by chance and "came alive" via natural processes
2. random mutations introduced vast libraries of complex code into primitive DNA
3. natural selection erased all of the mistakes in a fantastically lucky process that caused complex structures to develop
4. that a fish became an amphibian that became a reptile that became a bird that became a mammal or some variation of that sequence
...is all all a lot of unproved supposition that takes a great deal of faith to believe in.
Although the tiniest bacterial cells are incredibly small, each is in effect a veritable microminiaturized factory containing thousands of exquisitely designed pieces of intricate molecular machinery, made up of 100,000,000,000 atoms, far more complicated than any machine built by man and absolutely without parallel in the nonliving world."
The "simple cell" turns out to be a miniaturized city of unparalleled complexity and adaptive design, including automated assembly plants and processing units featuring robot machines (protein molecules with as many as 3,000 atoms each in three-dimensional configurations) manufacturing hundreds of thousands of specific types of products. The system design exploits artificial languages and decoding systems, memory banks for information storage, elegant control systems regulating the automated assembly of components, error correction techniques and proofreading devices for quality control.
At the moment of conception, a fertilized human egg is about the size of a pinhead. Yet it contains information equivalent to about six billion "chemical letters." This is enough information to fill 1000 books, 500 pages thick with print so small you would need a microscope to read it!
If all the chemical "letters" in the human body were printed in books, it is estimated they would fill the Grand Canyon fifty times!
This vast amount of information is stored in our bodies' cells in DNA molecules and is coded by four bases-adenine, thymine, guanine and cytosine. The key to the coding of DNA is in the grouping of these bases into sets that are further sequenced to form the 20 common amino acids. Together, these genetic codes form the physical foundation of all life.
All by chance? All without a Designer?

it is possible to believe in genesis and accept evolution. all of the christians i know do. they believe genesis is a story that has a message in it. the message being mainly "god is all powerful"
in other words they do not take genesis as 100% absolute infallible literal truth.

When did evolution become a proven fact?
I think you have your facts a little mixed up.

'And God said "Let there be" and there was' can be the big bang.
God can be creating now as we live. They can coexist, its up to you to decide if you believe it or not.
