I am trying to directly wire my PS3 to my modem but the wire that was in the PS3 box doesn't work. So I bought another wire and that one doesn't work. Only the wire that the cable company used to hook my computer to the modem works. The wire itself does look just a hair smaller than the PS3 and the other one I bought. What could be the problem, or what is the solution? Someone please help, I'm running out of ideas.

I do not have a router, just a cable modem.

If there are differences between PS3 cable (RJ-45) and your modems - try to find a matching router and than plug your PC and PS3 to internet via this router.
