My 9 yr. old shiba inu is acting really weird lately, she ahs always been protective of her treats(we have always been fine with that) but we got mice a couple days ago, so we put her food in the main room so she didnt go in the room with traps, all she does it sit in the room and stare at it, she never used to do that with their food in the basement, she was never even down there, and when any1 goes up to it she follows them and sometimes tries to bite, and today i kept telling her no biting and she was trying to act all sweet, and then whenever i moved my hand over a little she tried to attack it, like she didnt know it was the hand that was petting her a little while ago, also when my brother was walking she ful on tried to attack then again after that, so is she just protective over the food or is she going crazy, and what does dog blindness look like? her eyes look kind of like misty or are shiba's eyes supposed to be jet black, she seems to see our hands move from far away

You should, definitely, take her to the vet. She could have cataracts, which would be clouding her vision. But the fact that she just stares at her food is a puzzling question. If I am not wrong, aren't Shibas pretty naturally, hunters? Do you think the mice are possibly going to her dish, and she wants to see them and possibly try to catch them? Have you watched her and her dish of food, for any period of time? How long will she sit there? Do you see any mouse activity after you set the food bowl down? She may either see your hand as taking the food away that will attract the mice, or maybe she thinks your hand might be a mouse? Well, either way, take her to the vet, because she probably has cataracts, as she is 9 years old. Maybe you should feed her in a room where you have not witnessed any mouse activity. Also, you might try putting her on a leash and if she shows signs of aggression, make her sit nicely until you have decided she understands this is not appropriate, and you can pull her back without risking getting bitten. Make sure you don't do anything that will cause you or someone else to get hurt by her. You should know your own dog the best, so use your judgement on that.

I would take her to the vet. Also, she is aggressive with toys and food because you never messed with them since she was small. That's part of her knowing you're in charge and you decide when she gets treats, food, etc. Any clouding of the eyes would lead me to think you should see the vet pronto. Good luck.

Well, I was going to say take her to the vet but, that's only going to get me a thumbs down. So now that more people were nice enough to answer you question, what is it you want to hear?

Nine is pretty young for senility! If her eyes are looking cloudy and/or shining blue then she may be losing her sight which may be stressing her out..

Get your vet to check her out as this behaviour is not normal for her. Any change like this needs to be assessed.

good luck

get it checked by a vet, it could be the start of blindness...
the cloudiness is how it starts, if you catch it early enough (if this is what it is) then you can get treatment to prolong sight.
