I have a question for "Christian druids". I know many of you may think this can not be. I'm trying to learn more about the druid ways. I am a Christian. My best friend is Wiccan. For years I have struggled with not Christianity, but Christians themselves. I find that many are intolerable. For many years I was turned off from the faith because of other Christians. They made me feel outcast because I didn't' "conform" to all that they thought I should. Well to make a long story short, my wiccan friend and I were talking about my religion and I was telling her how alone I feel. I believe in God. I believe in Jesus Christ. I also believe that the Lord gave us "tools" so to speak to better our lives and to become more in touch with the world and him. I believe the world is so very precious. Every living life form is sacred. I believe that nature is so very alive, more than most people would think. My Wiccan friend said I seem to have almost a druid ideology.

I feel like I have found something. So basically I want to know. Can you be Christian and Druid at the same time. I don't believe in calling upon the deceased or conjuring up spirits, but I do believe in using all that nature has to provide. I feel that GOD himself put those "tools" there for us. Anyone out there in the same boat???

Solo, please elaborate. It's people like you that have turned me off to going to Christian Churches. I feel like people take the bible and meld it to their own liking. I'm not saying I want to worship false Gods. What I'm saying is, I don't see why the wonderful earth that God provided for us should't be celebrated.

My very Dear Lady, it is intolerant Christians that keep me an Eclectic Pagan. I love Jesus, He's a great friend of mine and God and I have a great relationship. We just choose to keep religion out of it.
I ran away from organized religion as soon as my parents (bless them!!) turned me loose from the Lutherans and I went back up into the woods behind the house to talk to God. All I ever found in chuch was hypocrasy and lies. The Good things I heard came from my parents and grandparents and from the Trees and the Earth Herself.
There's a LOT of us who feel the same way. You're not alone. God did give us tools : it's called Free Will and a thinking mind. You're using yours. It might be a druid ideology it might be Asatru, it might be Goddess knows what, but you're thinking for yourself.
Keep on thinking and if you need the thought of a smiling Otter, give me a call. I'll write back.

If some people can be Christian and Wiccan at the same time, I suppose you could be Christian and Druid at the same time.
What kind of Druid is the question. If you haven't looked into Druidry much, you should be aware that when many people say they are "Druids," they are part of a particular group of some kind, and those groups are based to some extent on ancient traditions from the British Isles. In the US the largest Druidic groups are probably ADF and OBOD. More on these in the links below.
Are you also drawn to the ancient culture and Gods of the British Isles? Or do you simply feel very connected to nature?
But on the other hand, why classify it? Why not follow your God and simply do what you are inspired to do without calling it something in particular?

I'm going to step aside and let my better half answer this one ... I'm good, but this is her specialty.
"Unfortunately, this is all too common. Most modern Christians are completely bereft of their own spiritual beliefs. They are wholly and completely unaware of even the basics of their religion. In biblical times - tho' in Christianity and Judaism it was not practiced as such - animals, plants, and the earth itself were given respect. For Christians and Jews not doing this was seen as a misuse and disrespect of what has been provided for us. There is a passage in the bible (Numbers 22 is where it starts, The Angel and Balaam) where a donkey is allowed to speak to complain to a master about it's treatment. Ancient Jews and early Christians held all of creation as sacred, but modern terminology, modern outlooks, and modern arrogance have robbed Christianity of it's mysticism, power, and responsibility to all things around us. Your beliefs are neither wrong, nor blasphemous. Yet you will find that our bretheren would rather believe the words coming out of the mouth of their pastor, preacher, or priest than believe the words that come out of our Bible because they are not educated enough to understand that when Jesus says "if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move" (Matthew 17:19-21) it is literal. Modern theologians will tell you that that is a metaphor. It wasn't metaphor whenever he told the tree never to bloom again (Matthew 21:18-21). As to finding more on modern day druids, I too am working with the Celts, but am by far not an expert. We are a bright glorious and very mystic tradition. Never forget that, and always remember - when it comes to God you must listen to your heart, not your fellow man." - Rachael
Back to me ...
Try http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Scythe_and_Sword/ for even more discussion of this nature. It should begin getting more lively soon, and one of the members is a druid. Rachael is a Christian Mystic that, like you, has gotten absolutely disgusted with the way modern Christians value conformity above all else when we are supposed to be one of the most accepting groups out there. Feel free to mail or message us for further discussion, good luck in your search for truth.

Although I feel we should remember our ancient history and culture. Druids wee not like Christians. Apart from they had some strange ways.
But those strange ways were often not pleasant. Such as the woman Druid female priests were often as ruthless as male priests.
Young women were made to enter a ritual dance until they got so tired were about to drop and the first to collapse was given a choice either be given in marriage to some, usually despicable old man or be sacrificed to their gods. Women were believed to know their choice well before entering the traditional dance.
Of course these days it is simply a traditional gathering that is more in coin to Christianity, but as you mention, though I will put it slightly different many Christians would shun you for joining in with them.
I have often felt at odds with both worlds but it suits me to be that way. maybe not deliberately but hey!
Besides all that. Have you noticed that society has taken such propriety of pitch that one dare not ask the simplest question?

mine is a mix between druidism and wiccan. witchcraft and nature both play a very big part of my belief system. but yes, i can totally see where you could be a christian and druid at the same time. you might think of it as a 'natural' christian. lol. hope your path leads to a much higher awareness of yourself and your world. i know for the past 22 years or so, mine has.

Wow, you bring good questions and concerns. As a christian, it saddens me that because of the example of "christian people" it has moved you to other thinkings, interests or beliefs. My prayer is that you focus on the word "the bible", itself. A christian is suppose to show you that they have Jesus in them. Please know that those who take their cross, ( this means one acknowledges that they are sinners and truly repent (only God knows this, not people) and believes that the blood of Jesus can take your sins away) who are saved is not suppose to make you feel to conform into anyone thinking. Salvation is a choice and acknowleding that Jesus is Lord and God is not suppose to be about forcing, many people do not understand this because they choose to do their will, invent or make a religion that seems confortable so that they do not feel guilty when they do wrong (sin). One thing, I pray that you would consider, no force of course, is that you ask God himself to remove any confusions and that He, ONLY HIM shows you the truth. No christian bible base church is perfect, please know this, as a christian I am aware of this because the Lord gives me guidance and wisdom so when I am being approached with something that is not of God, I can run away from it. Their are many so called christians that will add or remove something from the bible and make up things adding it to the word AND THAT IS A SIN. If I am welcoming you to my church and you see that I am chaning something in the word, I am a sinner and I am not showing you Jesus in me. This is one example, people move to a different belief because when the so called christian did not show you Jesus in them. People can be hard to trust this is why the best advice is to always refer to the bible and be fed with the Lord's word. He will show you the truth. Christians are suppose to guide you to the truth not change you. God changes you and makes you a woman God or a man of God, a child of God and gives you a joy no human can give. Christian sisters and brothers are suppose to be there to pray with you, fellowship, and worship God together. I hope and pray this helps a little. Yes, the word is very precious but it is powerful. Yes, nature is beautiful, God is the author of life and creator in fact I love calling him beautiful artist but remeber that once you die you can not take anything with you. But if you are saved (once again no force) you are alive in spirit this means your names is written in the book of life. Again, without any force please refer to the bible. A recommendation is the book of John and a book called "more than a carpenter josh Mcdowell." God bless and I trust that He will show you to the truth and remove confusions. :-)

it sounds like you have a beautiful philosophy, and as to being both a Christan and a Druid, if being a druid is having love, reverence and feeling an intimate connection with nature, I would say that "nature" is one of gods largest and most complex creation and not feeling a connection with that creation is missing one of the largest ways of loving and being close to god.
but I'm a naturalistic pagan, so what do I know?

Look, as long as you can throw good heals and pick a good spot to turn into tree form, I don't think any of your guildmates can find a reason to complain.
