A miscarriage is also known as a spontaneous abortion. The termination of a pregnancy is not entirely left up to a hospital to decide. The physician must talk with the woman. Termination of pregnancy is a surgical procedure and requires informed consent before it can be performed; but there might be an exception to this if the situation is indeed life-threatening. In either case, the woman must be informed.

Hi I am a register nurse and legally "NO" they can not terminate your pregnancy without your knowing or written consent to do so. They also have to tell you if you are having a procedure that is putting your pregnancy at risk. Terminating a pregnancy without the mother's knowledge is legally and morally wrong!! Doctors know that! If they do Large Law Suits!!!!!

It would be unethical to do something like that, especially since they can be sued for doing something that extremely horrible. Women who are tested for certain adnormal fetal diseases are given options, an abortion or taking care of this child to come. Chances are that they would not do something like that, but such thoughts of viral infections cause by hospital uncleanness does rise the question whether they can hide hospital negligence and lie by saying a potential miscarrige by mother. Horrible, but not usual.
Hope you are not going through this situation, my sister in law had to go through five miscarriage but at last she was able to have two beautiful childs thanks to the fact that they stiched her cervix close through pregnancy.
