I noticed that the kids that I know (or adults when they were kids) who had no siblings [being the only child] had ADD.
I cannot think of anyone who has siblings that had/have ADD.
Is this a coincedence, or is there a connection between being an only child and having ADHD??
thanks

Sorry, but you're very misinformed. There is no link between birth order and ADHD. Two of my three siblings have it, and most of the kids I know who have it have siblings as well. True ADHD is biologically based; whether or not a child who is "wired" differently had 10 siblings or none, he would still have ADHD. ADHD is also not caused by things like TV watching. Recent studies have shown that people with ADHD have different synapse patterns in their brains. Via MRI, it was shown that people with ADHD use a different sequence of parts of the brain when doing a planning exercise - hence the term, "Ready, fire, aim." The common misconception stems from the fact that many children who watch excessive amounts of TV are hyperactive, but that is NOT the same as ADHD.
*Edit* Yes, it is a question, but you implied that mostly children with ADHD are only children. You didn't ask IF mostly only children have ADHD, you asked WHY it is so. She answered honestly, and while you only want to hear what you want to hear, she IS right.
I'm not getting best answer?! Oh wah - excuse me while I cry my eyes out! My life is truly over! Boo hoo hoo! But at least I'll find some solace in the fact that I'm not an an ignorant fool like you.

I don't really think so, sorry. I'm an only child and I'm motivated to get things done and I enjoy spending time by myself, therefore I do not need a lot of attention from others. I don't have problems in school and I have good grades. I also have a lot of friends and I don't go around acting annoying just to get attention. But I know PLENTY of people with siblings who have ADHD/ ADD. I know no only children who have ADHD/ADD.

It may be they don't have any siblings b/c of the ADD/ADHD and not the other way. Given that ,I know plenty of kids with ADD/ADHD who have siblings. I think it may be similar to the reason people who have a severally disabled child first often don't have more children.

Not trying to be a smartass, but maybe the child with ADHD is a handful and requires a lot of attention and intervention and the parents decide not to have more children. I think if I had a special needs child I would heavily weigh the decision of whether or not to have another baby. I don't know if my answer is correct but it makes sense!

I dont' think that's a true statement.
My oldest son has ADHD, and he has a younger brother. My best friend has it, and she has four younger siblings. My husband has it, and he has four siblings. A cousin has it and he has a little brother. There are students in my kids' classes, and kids I taught in Sunday school, and several of them have siblings.

This is a disorder that has come about from Parents eating fast food, the growth hormones in the beef that comes from South America are causing bodies to have a very odd look.
Girls have big bellies and no breast's or little and guys look as if they work out but it's mostly the hormones that are making people act out as in your ADHD. These were never heard of 30yrs ago, before too many made this an all time eating habit.

I think you are being VERY BIASED - take for example my mothers family. My mom has 6 siblings and every single one has some form of ADHD - whether it comes out as impulse control, spaciness, talkativeness, you name it. Oh yeah, and 2 out of four of her children have ADHD as well.
Honestly there is a huge genetic load related to ADHD, and in some genes for ADHD there is an associated intelligence gain with having the ADHD as well. You obviously did not benefit.

the cause of the so called "ADD" is too much television since too much tv causes a short attention span. if you have siblings you dont watch much tv since you have siblings to play with but a single child has no one to play with so all they do is watch tv and play video games.
