I am a junior in college and I am just not motivated to do anything. I don't do so well in classes and I always say that I'm going to do well and try hard next semester, but it doesn't happen. Same thing with losing weight...I say I'm going to start doing this and it just never happens. I bought an excercise bike and I've only been on it once. I am not even motivated to go to class...I just sit on my computer and record music and listen to music. I can't get myself motivated to do anything. Help me pleeease

I'd recommend a few things:

First, find out what it is that is distracting or keeping you from doing the things that you are doing. Boredom is an amazing motivator, and since you say that you spend a lot of time on the computer or listening to music.. try getting rid of it! Put it in a place that you can't get to easily (someone else's house, maybe).

Second, change up your diet. Eating fast food and processed foods can inhibit your desire to be active. Instead, snack on vegetables or fruits (put them on the counter or something so they are out and available, so when you walk by you can easily eat them instead of having to prepare them). Baby carrots are great since they require no preperation, as are bananas and strawberries. They're also delicious!

Third, get someone to help you with it. I'm not talking about a psychiatrist, I'm talking about a close friend that would do things with you and keep you accountable. If you're going to exercise, do it with a friend. If you're having trouble going to class, find a friend that is in your class that you can do things with or can at least look forward to being with that person in class. Seeing that person could be motivation to move forward.

Be aware of what is happening to you, and try to figure out why you don't feel motivated. Look at times when you ARE motivated and figure out what is different about those times

If you are taking medication, it could be a side effect and I would recommend talking to your doctor about it.

Hey, I know what you're going through, I have such a problem with motivation as well. A lot of my problem comes from having depression and antidepressants seem to help me. Not saying you have this problem, but it is something to think about. As for getting involved with the day and not letting it slide on by like others have, I really pat myself on the back for the little successes, even if it's really minor. Maybe do the exercise bike thing like a joke -- tell yourself you wont walk past it without sitting on it, sit down on it and do ten seconds worth of exercise. Then pat yourself on the back. If you do this a lot, you may find the time getting a little longer occasionally, and you may get into it. Besides -- getting a little exercise can pump you up to tackle something else, like school work or class. Good luck to you. Just remember, you sure aren't alone in dealing with this problem.

You may have depression and not realize it. Go to your family doctor and talk to him about it. It might also be that you have ADD. One way to tell... try drinking coffee... if a couple of cups gives you the edge you need to do things, it's probably ADD. If you just don't have it in you to try the coffee, it's probably depression. Whatever it is, go see your doctor. You have a lot of opportunity right now. I want you to enjoy and make the most of it. Good luck!

Forget about the semester, year, life, etc. Just think about today. I also don't want to be motivated at times. Just say. "I can't controll every day but I can controll today" Then do your best that day. if you add up all your days like that then you will be sucessfull

You may be suffering from clinical depression or, like me, you were really not wired for the likes of college.

Might be depression. Can you talk to a counselor?
