Does sweet potato pie taste like pumpkin pie?

Sweet potato pie has a bolder taste than pumpkin pie does,especially since some people don't season their sweet potato pies with sugar or other spices normally found in a pumpkin pie. Personally,I like pumpkin pie better because it just doesn't taste so bitter to me like sweet potato pie does!

I am a former chef and for a bit of a different taste, bake the sweet potatos, use only cinnimon and a bit of sweetened condensed milk as apose to the Carnation variety.

If you roast them and the cool them, the flavour is a bit different and to make it even more different use molasses or Steins Cane Syrup instead of brown sugar.

Try to make a change to your crust, for me a bit of brown sugar in it along with a touchof butter or a shortbread style crust. I have changed up my recipes over the years so try something different or do it in a different pan.

It is similiar but sweet potato does have a distinct flavor of it's own. I prefer pumpkin myself, but both are good.

pretty much, its like the lowfat version of the pumpkin pie
its not exact but its as delicious, i actually thought it was pumpkin pie last year...those bastards tricked me!!!!

Yes because it is the spices that make it taste that way and the same are used for both. cinnamon, cloves,nutmeg,ginger.
