Dear Tess,

I am a christian. I am not religious. It was religion that put my Savior on the cross. (along with my sins)

As a christian I believe the following (as evidenced by scripture):

1) Jesus Christ is God (John 8:24)

2) He is the ONLY way to the Father and Heaven. (John 14:6)

3) Being saved means having a RELATIONSHIP not a religion. (John 17:3)

4) Becoming a christian is by FAITH in what Christ has done, not in ANYTHING I can do. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

5) Being a christian means being "born again" (John chptr 3)
(You may call it by a different name, but Jesus said you MUST be reborn. It's not optional. This is something God does. Not something we can accomplish in or of ourselves)

Obviously there is much more I could add. But I'm just stating the basics. The BASIC teaching of Christianity is that man is a sinner (born that way) and is entirely incapable of helping Himself or pleasing God. He needs a Savior. God Himself came to earth in the Person of the Son to redeem man. If a person responds to the Good News of the Gospel (Christs death and resurrection on our behalf) God will save that person, indwell that person with His own Spirit, adopt that person as His own child, spiritually open that persons eyes so that they may understand His Word, and transform that person into the likeness of His Son. (though the completion of this process will not happen until that person either dies or Jesus returns).

There is much more that can be said. But this is at the CORE of Christianity.

I believe it because when I was an atheist I was challenged to study the claims of Christianity and Christ. I actually looked at all of the arguments FOR and AGAINST. I started out with an inborn bias against it. But eventually I came to see that to the unbiased mind, the evidence was overwhelmingly in its favor.

I was also shocked to discover that just coming to believe that intellectually it was true, did NOT save me, or automatically make me a christian.

I actually had to repent of my sins, turn to the One who could FORGIVE my sins, and give Him my Life, my Trust, my Heart, and my ALLEIGENCE.

He wanted ME. Not just some assent to a "statement of facts".

So, in short, Christianity is JESUS CHRIST.

Do I stay "true" to my beliefs? Of course not. I fail Him all the time. But He has said, "I will NEVER leave YOU or forsake you". (Heb 13:5)

"I know WHOM I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I've commited...until that day"

WHOM I have believed. NOT what.

Tess, He wants YOU. All of you. If you let Him, He will take all of your failures and insecurities, and give you something wonderful in return.

Himself

I am a Pagan Minister and High Priestess. I chose Paganism because it fit my existing beliefs. Since I was a small child I have always had a reverence for nature and the ancient gods and goddesses. It is hard to give an accurate explanation here but basically Paganism includes nature based individually spiritual centered religion(s), meaning that each person creates their own individual spirituality.

Paganism covers many denominations and each one believes something a little different but we all agree that diversity is what makes the world turn smoothly. To be Pagan is to be free of all spiritual constrictions and restraints. Many of us fallow Karmic guidelines and believe in the sacredness of nature. To be Pagan also means that you are 100% responsible for your own actions, you messed it up you fix it, no one else to blame.

This barely scratches the surface, but it will do for this short board. And for your last question, yes, I do stay true to my beliefs and teachings.

Neo-Pagan Witch, Unitarian Universalist. I like Zen too.

Came naturally after years of studying, praying and thinking.

Its complicated. But it involves alot of love, responsibility, and examination of my life and attitudes.

How I stay true: Examine, examine, examine. Stay true to yourself, not a belief. Live in a way that requires courage. Take each day at face value. There are no pat answers. Be willing to screw up and make an a$$ of yourself. Don't ever blame someone else for your choices. Hope.

Theravada Buddhism

I chose it because it makes sense and is not dogmatic

Basic teachings:

1. We suffer (big surprise)

2. Suffering is caused by desire

3. Ending desire will end suffering

4. By leading a good moral life, we can stop desire. There's a set of rules for this (eight-fold path)

Yes, I stay true to my beliefs...

My parents brought me up in a small denomination but although I became 100% convinced it was true and enthusiastically took it up, God had other ideas! Aged 28, he caused me to meet a few Christians who got me thinking and checking out my denomination's track record. That gave me a shock as they had done and said things that I realised were not Christian at all. For 2 years I checked it and the Bible out afresh after which I left. God immediately led me into fellowship with local Baptists and I grew in grace with them for 15 years. Then God led me into fellowship with another Protestant group - a small group with a couple of beliefs I wasn't happy with, so I would never have chosen to join them myself, but God made it absolutely clear that was where he wanted me. Many years later, I'm thrilled at the depth of teaching and the warmth of Christian love with them. Through this I have learned that it's not where WE think we should be that matters, but where he would place us. He knows which part of his Body he wishes to use our gifts in.

The amazing thing is that only recently I discovered that I was now in the denomination my maternal grandparents once belonged to. I feel as if God has brought our family detour back on track. Awesome!

Atheist. Agnostic, technically, but the lack of evidence really does turn into evidence of absence at some point.

Since there is only one tenet of atheism, I'd say I'm pretty true to it. I don't have weak moments and worship gods now and again.
