First he had one on his cheek, then one by his ear and they both popped and he seemed completely fine after, I cleaned them both every couple of hours and he was back to normal. Yesterday I discovered another bubble on his cheek in about the same place as the first one, then today it popped and it seems really bad, he has like an open wound extending from his cheek to the bottom of his chin and he seems really lazy and down, but he's still eating. He won't come out from under the bed and he never stays under there, he's always following me around. Basically, my question is, will he be ok until tomorrow? All the vets were closed tonight, but I'm calling first thing tomorrow to bring him in. Do you think he's at risk of dying?

Hot compress the wound as much as your cat will let you and try and express out any puss thats still remaining in the wound. You will obviously need to have it seen, but as long as the cat isn't acting sick, and is eating and drinking right now, he should be ok for the night. Your vet will likely put you on antibiotics like Clavamox, and might want to do surgery to cut away any dead tissue and sew the wound up. I don't think he will die, but he probably feels really lousy about now.

Your cat may have been bitten by another animal and you are now noticing the resulting infection (bite-wounds often cannot be seen due to the fact that they are very narrow and beneathe the fur, but can be very deep and cause a lot of trouble). Sometimes people use a cat for "target practice" with BB guns, and a BB could be lodged in the flesh or skin. Take the cat to the vet for an assessment. Infections can take hold and make an animal really sick. zno one can tell you whether he will be O.K. until tomorrow, or not. That would depend upon the cat, the injury and how far the infection has spread.

You really should take the cat to the vet as some abscess need a drain in place and the cat might need antibiotics to keep infection away. A golfball sized one is pretty big for a cat. Be sure to bath the sore with warm salty water too, it helps to keep it clean.

My cat gets those abscesses on her chin/jaw from time to time. This last abscess she had started on the back part of her jaw bone and started to drain at the tip of her chin, I had to manually drain it..(bleed after that for about 10 min.) and I had to pop it again. This all happened on a Sunday and I took her to the Vet on Monday for an antibiotic shot and she was just fine..( I go thru this once or twice a year with her), so a day wait shouldn't be a problem. Just periodically check the area and clean with a damp cloth as needed.

You might want to call an emergency vet. Sometimes when you call a vet's office, they give a number to call in case of emergencies. CALL THAT NUMBER RIGHT AWAY!! Your cat needs attention right now, waiting until tomorrow may prove to be fatal.

My husbands cat died from the abcess on his face. Well we had to get him put to sleep because it got so bad and he was so misserable and the vets couldnt do nothing more. We tried everything we could afford to help him, which wasnt much, so my advice is to get him the help now and dont try and do it yourself and wait to long for a vet to see him. Good luck!

Abscesses are usually very painful and need to be flushed and the cat administered antibiotics and pain meds, but they are not usually an emergency or anything fatal. You might want to consider keeping him inside if he's fighting so much--he is at risk for contracting feline FIV or feline leukemia virus.

I recommend calling the vet - abcesses are full of bacteria and nothing to be fooling around with. Call and see what the vet on call recommends. ^..^
