I am cleaning out cupboards and have some bottles of spices that have been there for years. If they still smell strong, are they still reasonable to use? These are things I don't use often.

Spices are used as a preservative in some countries. Therefore, as long as there is no sign of fungus growth (container is still air tight) and the smell is as should be, go ahead and use it.

if there is any left about after a year's time, i throw them out 'cuz i like them fresh as possible
