a) What is your religion?
b) Have you ever killed someone, or been responsible for someone's death?
c) If so, do you regret it, and why; if not, under what conditions would you consider killing someone acceptable; such as if they have killed someone, committed a certain crime, etc.?

Today, upon noticing a nearby police officer, someone suddenly became nervous. He was asked by a friend of mine, "Why are you so worried? Have you killed someone?" Though he was just joking around, and laughed as he said it, the other person was shocked. He said, "Of course not! I'm a Christian!" This launched a discussion, in which this person argued that Christians would never kill, and if they did, they would regret it, whereas atheists would kill, and would never regret it. So, I'm curious as to whether there is, in fact, any correlation.

And I know it's unlikely, that someone here has killed someone. But, I included that, just in case someone has; be they a police officer, or maybe it's just something that doesn't concern us.

And no, I won't criticize your answers. I won't ask questions. But please be honest.

Thank you, and have a nice Thanksgiving :]

I am an atheist, and have never killed anyone.

I've broken most of the other "Commandments", but not that one.

I did steal things when I was a kid, mostly chocolate bars and few bags of chips - but I stopped. Not because I was afraid I would get caught, or worried that it would be a sin, and some skydude would punish me for it later, but because I came to realize that it was wrong to take something that didn't belong to me. It cost someone else to obtain those items, I didn't have any right to just take them because I could.

For an atheist, killing another person is the absolute worst thing you can do to another person. That life is the only life they are ever going to have - there's no spiritual reward awaiting them, no afterlife - you are taking everything they ever had, and everything they ever will have, as well as taking away from their family, friends, and community - which is all we have.

It seems to me that Christians would be the ones more easily able to justify killing, because for them, it would be sending someone else to their afterlife (a better existence, to their way of thinking), and apparently as long as they pray to God afterwards for forgiveness, it doesn't even count against their eternal 'reward'.

a) Atheist
b) Never have killed or been responsible. Really wouldn't like to either.
c) I have thought about murdering the person who murdered my mom. I was 2 years old at the time and I dont have any memories of her. However, I decided killing him (given the chance) would do nothing for me or my mom. I'd rather not become of those type of people.

tell your friend about the crusades, and then ask him if the chruch is feeling guilty lately. dont mention child molestation and the fact that millions have died for our country, which your christian friend quite probably thinks is a "christian" nation.
