If you want to keep citizenship I suggest the virgin Islands or Puerto Rico. However, if you do not mind living in another land i recommend Trinidad and Tobago. It is the wealthies of the caribbean islands and has the most job opportunities.

If you're a US citizen, you can move to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands without any problem. Any other island will require work visas, etc.

Puerto Rico and specifically San Juan is the most "modern" of the Caribbean islands. Remember the language is Spanish, and while most people speak some English, if you're looking for a job and only speak English, your opportunities will be limited.

Cruising gets it right...if you are American, moving to the VI or PR is like moving to New York from Utah. Any other Caribbean island is either an independent country or an overseas territory and you have to jump through all sorts of hoops to gain work permits, resident visas, etc......if they will even grant you one in the first place

Number one is Puerto Rico, without a doubt.
The second best would most likely be the Bahamas (although, technically, they are not in the Caribbean)
