When a cat is rubbing it's face on you or your belongings, he is leaving his scent on it/you. Kind of claiming his territory. Very normal. And when they show their bellys, that shows trust, b/c it's the vulnerable spot, he also probably just wants some attention. These are normal, healthy behaviors.

really, it depends.
it could be a show of affection towards you
trying to get attention and a nice rub
wanting to be fed
wanting to play
or if it is an outside cat, wanting outside
I have found that following my cat allows her to really tell me what she wants. When I get home, she immediately comes up to me and rubs on my legs and plops to the ground. When I move or start walking, if she comes back to me i know she wants to play, show affection, and be petted.
Sometimes shell lead towards the door and Ill step towards her and she will continue to the door, to go outside
and other times, ill do the same towards her food dish.
and like everyone else says, he is rubbing his scent on you and yours on him, that's how he recognizes you.
also remember that cats have very strong personalities. never expect the same "want" or reasoning behind his rubbing.

Hi there...he is showing you how much he trusts and loves you and enjoys your company immensely.
[edit] generally when cats rub up against objects or people they are doing what is called 'scenting' with their pheromones which is to establish ownership. Cats have scent glands located on the sides of the mouth, on top of the head (between the ears and eyes), the pads of the paws and their anal glands.

When cats show you their bellies, they are showing that they trust you. The belly is the most vulnerable spot. When he is rubbing you, he is saying that you're "his." He's putting his scent on you. All these are signs that he loves you. =)

he loves you!he is paying you the ultimate compliment by smudging his scent over you(don't worry, you only smell to other cats) to let other cats know that you are his property. scent marking is very common with male cats.he is saying that he trusts you, needs you and wants to be loved by you. cats adopt this cutesy mode so that you pick them up and give them a bit of cuddle time. they are very affectionate creatures in the right company and just like to spread it around a bit!!!!!
