God does not send anyone to hell. They choose to go there by choosing not to follow God. Until people die, there is always the hope and possibility that they can choose God and live, but some will never choose God because they "know" he doesn't exist.

Once a person stands before the white throne judgment, which is the judgment for all those who are not saved it will be too late to receive forgiveness.
2 Peter 3:9-10 from the New Living Bible puts it very simple and plain; It says The Lord isn't really being slow about his promise to return as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to perish, so He is giving more time for everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and everything in them will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be exposed to judgment.

April, God doesn't send people to hell, u make that choice ur self.
God sent His Son who gave His life for u to give u an open door to walk through, it is a free gift.
If u choose not to except that gift from God then no u have no forgiveness after u have died.

While we live, our time for forgiveness is now...it is so important to ask God to save us while we have the time. We do not know when we will die, and once we die, our chance is passed.
When the criminal on the cross asked Christ to remember Him, Jesus told him that he would be with Christ "today" in paradise.
Luke 23:42-43
42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." 43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
This implies that judgment happens upon our death. That without Christ, the very day a person dies without Him, they will be judged and be sent to the place that was made specifically for the devil and his angel followers who rejected God...the lake of fire...etc. It is separate from heaven, because there is no sin in heaven. There can be no evil with God. An unrepentant sinner is bound by their sin and must therefore be put in the one place reserved for those who reject God. That place is hell.
Am I 100% certain that there is no time between the death of a person and their judgment...? No. But I am 100% certain that our salvation comes by faith in Christ. If we wake up before God, faith is no longer an option. Without Christ, when a person is judged by God, they are judged according to their sins against God which they must then pay on their own, of which there is only one true penalty.
Only by Christ's blood, are we who have Him as our Savior, spared from the fires of hell. When God judges us, He sees the righteousness of Christ, as a covering over our sins, and we are forgiven on His account. Not our own.
Take Care and God Bless you.
Addition: The original Greek and Hebrew do use Sheol or Hades or Gehenna which all hold very negative connotations, but the words "lake of fire" are used specifically, and I think this is fairly descriptive.

Everyone has a chance for forgivness, right up until hey breathe their last breath. However, this chance ends at death. Those foolish enough not to accept God's gift of salvation before dying are doomed. See the parable of the workers in the vinyard. Right on William D!

If ALLAH (GOD) wishes to forgive you, then you can be forgiven.
No-one has the right to say anyone is going to hell or even heaven. It is only up to ALLAH.
ALLAH is OMNIPOTENT! Everything you do ALLAH knows, he knows the secrets within all of our hearts! He knows our intentions. Try to stay on the right. Everything we endure in this life, can help us have a genuine heart and genuine intentions. Follow your heart, try to stay on the right path. If you make mistakes, its OK, everyone does. Learn from them.
This life is a test, we should know what is right and wrong, ALLAH does guide us, but it is up to us to see it. The beginning of your true life will start when we die in this one. This is nothing compared to life after this, the eternity after this. When we are judged by ALLAH he will then reward us if he wishes to.
Always use your heart, have good intentions, do not do things just for the sake of it, believe it, feel it, understand it and embrace it. ALLAH the almighty will know what is deep in our hearts...
Wish you the best in life, and may ALLAH (GOD) bless you... :)

If you haven't accepted God's forgiveness by the time you leave this life, I believe it is too late for you. According to the book of Revelation, the last book in the bible, at the time of the great judgement, those whose names are not in the book of life will be destroyed. This is the second death.

No, they have a chance.
David, guilty of grievous sins declared...
Psalm 16:9
“For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell"
He saw the dead, small and great, stand before God, and the books were opened and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works—not just their faith, not just what they say with their mouths, but by their works. And death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them and they were judged every man according to his works. (See Rev. 20:12–14.)
John 5
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
1 Peter 3:18
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
1 Peter 4:6
6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

If you actually study the bible (the originall uncut version) there is no word for hell. The original term which is in hebrew, which I don't recall simply means " the absense of God" When you die you are either in the presence of God (heaven if you wish) or you are absent of God or also meaning you no longer exsist.

God doesn't send people to hell. How many times must I say this? When you make a mistake, who is the one that suffers?
You do. The only one that is responsible for your demise is YOU!!!
