Davidmi7 - You need to re-read the article. as it does say and I quote from the article itself "notorious Mafia heroin trafficker recently freed from federal prison after two decades cannot be deported to his native Italy because he would be tortured to tell all he knows about the mob," If I could post it in bold, maybe you might see it better.
DAR, sadly America has guaranteed criminal compatriots in the past a safe haven from torture. Emelda, and Ferdinand Marcos for example. But then again, they were dictators in the Philippines. They were offered a place in Hawaii to stay owned by one of their best friends, to which they accepted. The American tax payers were also handed a bill for all the body guards our government provided them for protection.

Still ticks me off that we allow those types of crooks a safe haven. Rather than leave corrupt government dictators, Presidents, and officials to their own fates handed down by their own people. And this guy is no acception to my reasoning with this comment. He too should be deported. But since he won't be... allow me to send a copy of this article to Italy and see what they think.

hi. First, i might want to make a distinction: mafia, strictly talking, refers back to the Sicilian prepared crime. whilst that's not constrained to that island, different aspects of italy have their very own flavour of prepared crime. i anticipate even regardless of the indisputable fact that which you employ the observe in a extra commonplace experience. The mafia *is* an excellent concern in Italy. that's not, even regardless of the indisputable fact that, one that would desire to concern remote places travelers. it is via the fact the mafia is in fact a sort of selection government working on the community human beings. you want to open a keep? Pay the community mafia or you will in no way be waiting to. you want to construct a house? Pay the community mafia. you want a job interior the Lorcal administration? You get the belief. The mafia could be a concern for the landlord of the inn you're in even regardless of the indisputable fact that it is not susceptible to care approximately you. the only way it ought to reason you problems isn't rapidly. considering the fact that facilitates and criminal forms is so in many cases bypassed through appearing via the mafia community and because such pseudo government basically cares approximately getting funds and means (in assessment to the actual government which... nicely in step with risk they do no longer seem to be all that diverse in spite of each and everything) controls are lacking and infrastructures are particularly circumstances sub par. this does not propose you would be completely risk-free and can act carelessly (petty crime is rampant in many aspects of Italy) yet mafia isn't susceptible to have any effect on your holiday. As to the place it is got here upon extra many times, that's surprisingly everyday even regardless of the indisputable fact that it originated as a southern phenomenon and that's nevertheless primary interior the south. in case you want a *very* tough rule of thumb you may draw a line at Rome and divide Italy there, yet frankly it somewhat is the form of concern a prejudiced northern league (a secessionist-racist Italian political occasion) member might say.

And yet Arar Mahar gets sent to Syria to be tortured. It was convenient to claim he was a terrorist then. And now its convenient to claim human rights? What a fu*ked up country you live in. Your priorities and policies are all SCREWED.
Your government is willing to send NON-Americans to be tortured, but not mafia. He must have MOSSAD connections. Only a Jew would be saved like this.
whats the point in torturing this fellow? He's been behind bars for 20 years. His information will be years out of date.

Watch out.....the Mexican governors of the states close to the border are whining because they can't handle all the intense criminals being deported back to them either. Proves the point that ALL illegals aren't good honest people just wanting to work.......since they are also complaining they have towns void of men and need them.
We can't guarentee criminals are saved from the consequences of their actions.

I read that a while back. We need to tighten our definition of torture. My understanding is his treatment would be similar to Guatanomo. Frankly I would let them have him. Italy is not going to electrocute body parts.

It's felt that the Italian authorities would get "over zealous" in their interrogation of this man for info about the Mafia in Italy.
So, what? Criminals have rejected society's rules, and shat upon its laws, so who gives a flying crap what happens to them??
