Can I use sattelite inernet to go online through my playstation3? (like Hughesnet)

Don't see why not do you have a router, wifi or otherwise?

Sure, but you may find that things, like gaming, may be unsatisfactory...

Highly interactive applications, like games, don't use a lot of bandwidth, but DO rely on speed, or latency. Latency is the measurement of how long it takes for a single packet of information to go from you, to your destination, and back again. You want your latency to be as low as possible.

For satellite, this means that this packet must go from your house, up to the satellite, down to the satellite's office, onto the internet, then back up through the satellite before finally beaming back down to your house. Those 2 trips up into orbit and back down again takes a lot of time, even though the signal is moving at the speed of light. This results in very high latency, making gaming almost impossible. If you've every made a long distance phone call through a satellite, and noticed how it seems to take a few seconds for your words to reach the other end, that delay is exactly the same thing you'll experience with gaming.

Downloading data - such as a game demo or movie - is not interactive, so it's unaffected by latency.
