yes, this section called eishet chayil is sung every Friday night (shabbes eve) by husbands to honour their wifes. the text itself presents a very idealistic idea of the most perfect wife and is only an ideal.

I think sawyer has it right, but I don't have a lot of time right now to research it. Yes, it's said on Shabbat in front of the kids and I think it's beautiful. Yes, I think it's an ideal that everyone should try to achieve. We should all be so lucky.

This chapter is quoted on Jewish Sabbaths (Friday evenings) by the husband over his wife as he places his prayer shawl around her & draws her under it next to him. This is done in full view of the children.
