You know what sucks too? working for a "big company" and have a 100 ideas on how to inprove productivity and you (well, me) are totally disounted and nothing ever gets better.

I work for the Post Office where there are 17 layers of management who gets bonuses when the pust the 1 layer of carriers to work longer harder and under unsafe conditions.

THAT SUCKS

Goo luck finding a way to market your ideas, but I can tell you this, NO big company will ever care about the little people they look after the high and might dollar.

I invented something...and made it work..... I called 5 or 6 lawfirms before finding one to file for patent on a contingency fee basis (they get paid when/if I do -- and it's a good enough idea to be obviously profitable sounding). I went on to found a small business...gather up interested companies wanting to see more on the technology, joined interest groups and made more potential partners...then a couple of interesting things happened.

I ran into a university thinktank with gov and industry dollars behind it had busilly produced essentialy the same invention at nearly the same time, and also was awarded very similar patents. Meanwhile 2001 happened and literally destroyed what I would call a good climate for obtaining venture capital.

Bottom line, to this day, the technology is not going to market. I did not win, but the patent is there, and so the big guys did not win either. The stalemate is over 5 years old...it get more interesting, but the point I am trying to make is that this is still America, and you can still do what you are saying is not possible. If anything it is more possible today than before to invent something immensly profitable, get a patent, and produce or license that.

But regardless, don't sign intellectual property rights out to employers (shopright) without excluding what you consider to be your intellectual property. Unless the intellectual property competes with your company's product, then there's no compelling reason why they'd deny such a request at the time of hire.

intellectual property attorneys. you'll find them in most major cities in the US.

of course, if you're looking to get something for free, the advice you'll receive is worth about as much as you pay for it
