Thomas Jefferson was our third president, and he wrote the Declaration of Independence, there's your quick history lesson ;)

He was also a deist, which is about a half inch from atheism. Numerous times he wrote harsh words against organized religion and Christianity in particular.

Can you guys remember Jefferson the next time you feel inclined to say this is your nation, your Christian nation, and that atheists are stupid unpatriotic fools?

It was a secular nation in writing. Getting the citizens to actually follow the constitution and intent has taken years and years.

For instance, we weren't even close to a democracy until females got the right to vote. Things like Sunday blue laws, prayer in school, and such were totally unconstitutional.

first watch the movie Zeit Geist, then, after your understanding of the real reason behind religion and the ages is reached, can we talk about christian nations.

But in reality there is no such think as a christian nation, the founding fathers where wealthy and rich in comparison with the average american at the time, and although they may have shown outward belief in a " God' internally i doubt very much that they really believed it, most people dont, understandably because its BS.

God does not exist, this is self evident. there is no proof that a Jesus existed, since there was only one book containing reference to this figure. also further research will point out the similarities to many other Religious dieties of the time. Also, religion has existed as it has for so long only because it is a usable control mechanism for the poor masses. (notice i say poor, the rich simply dont care, for they are rich and have access to better resources and are able to realize the contradictions of religion, or use the yoke and guide the poor to their wims)

There are good and undesirable followers of all religions. The West is fearful of Islam as that's the only capability that's tricky their tactics. This is a nation of Christians, but not a christian nation. They can not seem to see the difference.

The principles this country was founded on are anything but christian.

Perception becomes reality. It has here in the US. Does it matter that the US isn't a Christian nation if the majority of people percieve it to be? Which is the real truth?

well, we aren't a christian theocracy. Christianity isnt the official religion of the US. People are free to worship GOD as they see fit, or not to worship GOD at all. However, there are more Christians in America than any other religion. This country was forged on god-fearing morals.

George Washington, our first president and "the father of our nation" said in a Thanksgiving Proclamation on October 3, 1789, “It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favors.” He also said, "“It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible. Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great Pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men and citizens…And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion.”

And yes, we are also "officially" a Christian nation. The Supreme Court, eight years after the passing of the First Amendment, declared in the 1799 case of Runkel v. Winemiller, “Religion is of general and public concern, and on its support depend, in great measure, the peace and good order of government, the safety and happiness of the people. By our form of government, the Christian religion is the established religion; and all sects and denominations of Christians are placed upon the same equal footing…”

The founding fathers knew where our rights come, not from the mob, or from government, but from God.

Madison himself stated several times that the Book of Issiah is where he got the idea for seperated enumerated power, and the continental congress was led in prayer and closed in prayer.Several of the colonies constitutions even required a christian faith to be a member of government.

The fact is that the religious and secular war was being fought at our founding, and is still fought now. What has changed is that the secularists are winning now, whereas in the past the theists did.

We may not be "officially" Christian, but our culture has ALWAYS been Christian, and we don't want to see our culture destroyed.
