They don't. " God is love "; therefore his only personal attitude towards the affairs of the universe is always a reaction of divine affection. The Father loves us sufficiently to bestow his life upon us. " He makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. "
Mercy is simply justice tempered by that wisdom which grows out of perfection of knowledge and the full recognition of the natural weaknesses and environmental handicaps of finite creatures. " Our God is full of compassion, gracious, long-suffering, and plenteous in mercy. " Therefore " whosoever calls upon the Lord shall be saved, " " for he will abundantly pardon. " " The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting "; yes, " his mercy endures forever. " " I am the Lord who executes loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight. " " I do not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men, " for I am " the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. "

It has nothing to do with any particular "religion". Those are imperfect man-made institutions. What it really is all about is not so much different that our own relationship to our children. We want them to do what is right and proper, we are hurt and disappointed when they choose to do otherwise, and God is not any different. Do you not think that in the eyes of most one year olds we do not appear "godlike" and perfect. After all we can walk and talk and chew gum all at the same time. I do not mean to sound insulting but to us, as adults those are fairly simple things, but the a one year old child it is as far away from their ability to achieve as it is for us to understand God and His wisdom.

There's where you obviously don't understand about God's perfection. He is perfect righteousness, which cannot abide sin. Yet He is infinite grace and mercy, too. He has given us every opportunity to turn to Him. Those who end up in hell sent themselves there--don't twist it around and make it His fault. Besides, He's God, He gets to make the rules and who are we to say different?
I guess in this day and age where parents don't disclipline their children firmly out of love and concern, it stands to reason that people can't understand this concept. But would it really be loving of me as a parent to just sit back and not "get upset" if my kids wanted to play in the freeway? Or if they took drugs and I knew they were going to get arrested and sent to jail where I might not be able to visit them? Sin upsets Him because He knows the damage it will do to us, and because He knows it will break our fellowship with Him and He doesn't want to be separated from us. God is our Heavenly Father--He loves us with the perfect love of a parent who wants the best for His children---I hope putting it that way helps it make some sense to you. (If your parents didn't love you like that, I'm sorry--they did you an injustice.)

Perfect doesn't mean that things don't make you angry. Perfect means that you do not sin. In God's case it's a step further - there is no sin in Him. He is utterly holy. If you were completely sinless and holy, like God is, you would be disgusted at sin too, and you would get angry with people who were too stubborn and too enamored with their pet sins to obey you when you told them how to live the right way. God has a right to get angry - after all, He is God! It sounds simple but it is true nonetheless.
As for your last sentence....that sounds to me like you think you are better than God. Think again, friend. It isn't about punishing people who don't follow a religion. The Bible says, "The wages of sin is death...". The people who are in hell are their because they died with all their sins not paid for. Had they simply bowed their knees and asked Jesus to forgive them and save them, their sins would be completely paid for and they could live forever with God. Because God is holy He can't allow sin into His presence. Trust me, if you understood sin like God does you would do the same thing.

Perfect love includes perfect compassion. We have children of our own and even the imperfect beings that we are weeps with them when they suffer and rejoices with them when they are happy. God, being perfect, and a father, weeps and rejoices with all of his children as well.

I'm told God cannot create a square circle- that goes against the laws of logic, against definitions of square and circle.
Well...its no different for transmuting a staff into a snake...also defies the laws of physics, and the definitions of the particles making up the staff.
This God fellow seems to make very little sense.

If he were perfect, then his own creations could never upset him because a perfect being cant make mistakes. Unless he wanted them to upset him... But he cannot be upset because he knows everything including the future...

In the beginning maybe, but not anymore. You are wise to instinctively know that God has emotions, but has learned to control them.
