I am interested in Wiccan, but right now i am atheist. I don't really understand Wiccan, but i read that they believe in gods, and if i have to believe in gods to be Wiccan im not going to, because i just cant do that, can you be atheist and wiccan? Also, if you want, throw in a good informative site on wiccan? i read wikipedia's article and it was confusing.

P.s- I don't want any people going like "I hate you, your atheist!", "I hate wiccans!",ect.

Hey sweetie, good luck with that! A few notes:

1) There are no converts to Wicca/Witchcraft, and we don't encourage or want people to convert. If it's in your heart already, you'll know, and if it's not, it will never be. Most born Wiccans/Witches when they hear it described say "Wow, that's how I feel already! Now I have a name for it!" If that's not your reaction, it might be time to think twice.

2) What exactly is Wicca/Witchcraft? Ask 100 witches and you'll get 101 answers, as my first teacher used to say. I recommend my students start with the book "The Spiral Dance" by Starhawk, in its 30th anniversary edition. See if it makes any sense to you. It's hard to pin down any religion in 30-second sound bites - gotta dig in a little deeper.

3) I've never met a Wiccan/Witch who didn't love the stories of Gods and Goddesses from pantheons past. Not only do most Wiccans/Witches believe in the existence of God/desses ("polytheistic"), but some are pantheistic, meaning they see the energies of Deity/s in every living thing.

I can't imagine an atheist Wiccan/Witch, but my group has quite a strange assortment of people calling themselves Christo-Pagans, Buddha-Pags, Aquarians, etc. so nothing is impossible. Good luck to you, wherever your Path may lead you!

Most people convert to Wicca or Paganism because it is in their heart. They are usually magickal nature orientated people who find comfort in what is ancient. Although Paganism has a niche for almost everyone. I would suggest that you read more about it. And to be a Wiccan you do not have to believe in any god in particular but all Wiccans accepts that the belief in any of the gods is ok and many of our traditions include the ancient cultural worship or acknowledgment of some deity or another. It is all about open mindedness.

Well, there is no law saying you can't. Also, no matter what, someone out there is going to say that atheism and wicca cannot mix.

I say take what you like best from each and put them together. If your atheism based beliefs prohibit certain beliefs in wicca, then don't follow those beliefs. You will not be considerd wiccan by many but you could be the first wicca observing atheist in the world.

What it all boils down to is research and learning about wicca. Go to the library and check out some books that are wicca friendly. Also check out the ones that are critical of wicca, especially if they are from a skeptic point of view.

Wicca, or witchcraft, has many facets. Since each of us interprets this religion in whatever way we need to, I doubt anyone is going to tell you that you have to believe in any gods, there is no bureaucratic hierarchy to do so. It all boils down to what works best for the practitioner. The prime precept is "Do as you will, but harm none". Wikipedia is a frequently-inadequate and unreliable source for information, since any idiot can say what they will there, use other sources.

I'm not entirely sure because I've never studied it thoroughly but i think the main god of wiccanism is the earth or Gaia as some call it. Would you have a problem worshiping the earth

Just as there are multiple brands of Christianity, there are multiple forms of other religions. Certain religions, such as Buddhism, have atheistic forms. I am not positive, but I strongly suspect that Wicca is another of those religions with atheistic variants.

Look more into pagan. Wicca is basically an offshoot with dogma.

Or mysticism. You might really like Roscrucian too. Mystics truly do rule.

I believe it's possible. To me religeon isn't about believing in Gods or God, it's about teaching you whats right and to tell you how to get started on a path of your life, We shouldn't fight on whether God existets, but what god WOULD want us to do.
