Aside from any war since before WWII i.e. WWII, Korea, Viet Nam........any history that we share with Southeast Asia, excluding the Phillipines, is virtually non-existent.
The only issues, with the possible exception of the Boxer Rebellion, was limited to trade issues.

At the end of Spanish American war in the late 1800s, of which Spain lost, the Philippines in South East Asia, together with Guam in the Pacific, Cuba and Puerto Rico in Latin America, were annexed to the United States of America. They all share a history which continuous up until today.
I suggest that you google Spanish American war or the Philippine / Guam history. They will tell you more information about the presence of the United States in South East Asia.
Vietnam War, Korean war and more recently Afghanistan and Iraq, are involvements where American military took active involvement in the name of democracy.
