Is there any speculation or confirmation on a Hyundai Sonata (or any Hyundai for that matter) Hybrid being made?

I don't see any news about Hyundai going the Hybrid route or the diesel route either in the next 2 years with any vehicles. Alot of companies will be rolling out diesel cars/trucks in the next 2 years (Honda, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo) for US sale instead of more hybrids. New diesel engines are more efficient and last longer then hybrid's for about the same price. The current 4 & 6 cylinder Sonata engines are fairly fuel efficient and hybrid sales still remain a fraction of all vehicle sales, demand just isn't as high as the media makes it out to be. The Hyundai Hellion concept does have a diesel engine, so its likely Hyundai will have a few diesel cars available by 2010/2011 model year at the latest.

Go with Kia. They have hybrids (up to 80MPG) and Tier2Bin5 diesels coming in 2009. The Kia Optima is nicer than the Sonata anyway. (More power, better MPG)
