because it is the church that intreprets the bible and teaches us the full meaning of the revelations of Christ. Through the church we know how to respond in any given generation, being that the bible dont mention every possible situation , for example birth control, the bible dont mention it alot except in genesis about onan spilling his seed and God killed him for it. and the fact the bible teaches that children are always a blessing. In any given situation we have the church who can lead and guide us through the paganism of today as yesterday. the bible was written to believers not as a means to teach , tho it can teach lessons, but the church has always been a teaching ministry started by Jesus handed on to man, even though sinful as they were, we know the church is guided by the holy spirit, Jesus promised us.

Lets break it down a little bit first:
Truth has to be justified, which neither can be, the bible or the church. Next, the church is supposed to be a network of people helping and supporting each other. The bible merely outlines that happening with some laws, letters, and other such documents.

The real work of the christian god, where jesus set himself apart from other prophets is when he sets out on his ministry and literally changes the lives of people through actions, not quoting Hebrew scripture. He got down, got his hands dirty and took care of people that needed help. That is essentially where the church is supposed to be, not to say it always happens that way, but that was the intent.

As far as being THE pillar, it is only one of many, and again, it is not a pillar of truth, it is a pillar of faith, or even moreso a pillar of hope, bringing light to dark places in people's lives like they really need.

Christ started the church the Church wrote the Bible.
Jesus I might note did not grab a pen to write a single book in the Bible- followers did...so you only know what is scripture from traditons of The Church..so fo thosewho say the Bible is not flawed and the early church was doctrinaly flawed end up shooting themselves in the foot. as the question comes up why should you trust the Bible if the canon was finalied in the 4th century by people they consider apostate?
As it was chosen long before any major schism both us Orthodox and the Roman catholics calim to have chosen the books- the debate is who is closer to the practices at the time they were chosen.

Having been reared from infancy in the church as a pastor's daughter, I am strongly inclined to disagree that the church is the pillar and foundation of truth. The foundation of truth is indeed the Bible, not the people who make up the church by any means. The Bible is the inspired Word of God and we are to follow the teachings within it as our instruction book to a prosperous and righteous life. In the Bible it is written that there is no perfect man, no not one. Using the word man to represent all people male and female, that means that the people everywhere, even within the church are capable of wrongdoing and my experience with churches is that much wrongdoing can exist within a church. Given that some of these people may honestly feel that they are living as excellent examples worthy of being called foundations of truth, it still does not make this true. There is too much pride in the hearts of these pious ones. Best put is this verse from God's Word, " And from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction(for us), for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." 2 Timothy 3:15 - 17. To me this says it all that the foundation is found within the word in order to make the church all that it is meant to be. I see no way that one could consider the carnal natures of the people who make up the church to be the foundation and pillars of the truth, perhaps the pillars of self-righteousness at best.

The early church did not write the Bible. Read 2 Peter 1:21. The Bible does not have "too many flaws". We have found 24,633 new testament manuscripts, which makes what we have 99.5% accurate with what they had back in the day. Some people do interpret the Bible with what they think is correct, but is really something they made up to suit themselves.
To answer your question, it should be the Bible, but most people do not look to the Bible for truth; they look to other people and their opinions.

Because the Church that Jesus established had the Priesthood and the organization with a foundation of prophets and apostles that would receive continuing revelation for the Church and its members. When the apostles were killed and no longer able to replenish their ranks (they had to be together to do this) then the Church went into apostasy and all we were left with were the writings of the prophets and apostles...since that is all they had left...they elevated it to the point of worshiping the writings. They did the best they could with what they had. The Church was taken away until the restoration of all things spoken about in those writings took place. Now the Church has been established once again.

Because Christianity and The Church are two totally different things. Christianity is for the good of the people and The Church (as we know it today) is for the good of The Church.

You bank at the Church!

edit: The Holy Ghost is watching how much you are giving... He can zap you on the spot if you even think about short change him!

1Ti 3:15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

Acts 5:1-11 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property.
2 With his wife's full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles' feet.
3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?
4 Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God.”
5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened.
6 Then the young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.
7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.
8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”
Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”
9 Peter said to her, “How could you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”
10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events

WHEN THE HOLY GHOST ZAPPS YOU... NOT EVEN YOUR NEXT OF KIN IS NOTIFIED...!!!

Jesus Christ is the Church. He is the pillar and the foundation of truth.

I'm not sure I understand the question.

In theory, the Bible should be all you need. But the Church wouldn't have much of a point if you could learn everything you had to from a book. The Church is a business, not a service, and they know how to manipulate people.

There are just as many faults in the Church as there are in the Bible.
