I am an identical twin myself. My twin and I, age 29, are very close, and I recently did a paper on twins. I also, like you, discovered that identicals share the same DNA. However, we each have a different set of fingerprints, but yes, you're right, identicals share the same DNA. Another interesting fact is that identicals share the same brain wave patterns (just thought you'd like to know). That's why when one twin breaks an arm the other twin will usually have the same symptoms in the same arm. I did this when I was little with my twin. I broke my left arm and she woke up crying to my mom that her left arm was hurting her. We were 6 yrs old when that happened. Sorry I'm just getting started on my research too, but I don't know of any popular books yet, and don't know the answer to your questions. Just wanted to share. Good luck hunting! And I hope they end up sharing a great bond too!

From what I've read about identical twins, you are partially correct. They do have identical DNA, although it is expressed in different ways, which results in the twins having some physical differences. Fingerprints, for example, will be different.
Back to your original question: DNA cannot be used to determine which of the twins is the father of a child. But if the father of the child left fingerprints . . . (just kidding now).

I watched Maury and they had a set of identical twins on there. It turned out to show both of them as the father because their dna was identical too. But, they did a lie detector test to prove that one of them wasn't the father.

I've seen an episode on maury where the wife was cheating on her husbands identical brother, and the DNA test proved that they BOTH were the fathers, and so they had to give the guy a lie detector test. So yes according to the maury show that could definitely happen!

well yes Identical twins have same DNA but different fingerprints. Identical twins have identical DNA. They come from the same fertilized egg, which had only one complete set of DNA in the first place. That fertilized egg and its single set of DNA split to form twin embryos-each with its own set of DNA, identical to the other. One small quibble: the DNA sets will be identical, unless one fertilized egg's DNA mutates. Such mutations, however, are normally so tiny that DNA analysis can't detect them.
Suppose one identical twin commits a crime. How do you tell which twin did it if the DNA is identical? Well, you don't use DNA analysis since the DNA is the same. You dust for fingerprints. Genes only set the pattern for the fingerprint. The print develops in a placenta environment that differs somewhat for each twin. That, in turn, results in similar but different fingerprints.
You don't have any choice just pray their wives are loyal to their own husbands.

Yes. If one were to be part of a crime, the DNA evidence would point to both of them.....
I don't know any books about identical twins.

Wow!! This is a really interesting question... sorry I can't answer but I'm eager to see the turnout!! If this is the case...then fingerprints are the only valid way to determine the difference in identical twins which wouldn't do any good on a paternity test... interesting.

There was some girl on one of the talk shows that slept with twin brothers on the same day and got pregnant. They can't prove who is the daddy and who is the uncle because both test show up as positive! Lets hope that NEVER happens to your family!

All twins have identical DNA, because thats why theyre...well, twins. Twins come from a single DNA cell that splits, which is why their DNA is the same.
