to relieve them of the fear and powerlessness they feel and give the hopeless people the illusion that they have some measure of control over thier insignificant lives.

I feel that praying to G-d gives people hope. Most aren't as selfish as others and pray for their family and friends. Some things are out of our control and asking G-d for help comforts us. I pray to G-d daily. I often ask for things that are a bit selfish but I also ask for things that will benefit other people and not myself.

most people were brought up to pray to God when they didnt know the answer. Others turned to prayer after something major and depressing happened in their life. Praying for some is to have someone to talk. I think that their is nothing wrong with having your own opinion on a matter or something God did. You can debate with him about, and say your opinion, because he gave us free will we are all allowed our on opinion, why not use it?

I pray to God because it is how I talk to Him, how I get to know Him. If you never talked to your best friend, what kind of relationship would that be? For example, even if your best friend knew that you were going to work that day, wouldn't you still want to tell them what it was like? God is all knowing and He is almighty and He wants us to talk to Him!

I am a free thinker, I believe in parts of many religions, if people want to pray to god ( it says in the bible it's ok to do so) and it makes them feel better, whether YOU think it's right or wrong, let them have their comfort.

We pray for the same reason that we ask help from people, or ask advice of people, or things like that. Prayer is not trying to convince God to change his mind. Most of my prayers are for help or guidance.

I pray to God to build a relationship with him. I pray for security of myself and my children. I ask him to be with me if I need courage and strength. Its about love and asking him to forgive you of your daily sins and help you through hard times in your life. If you don't ask you don't recieve. Its about faith and comfort. Its not about asking him to change his mind or sway his judgement at all. He is there for help and comfort for his children.

Why do you ask your dad for a birthday present?
It is apparent, that you are not a parent!
When you have children, you'll be a little wiser. You'll understand why you would like your children to call you every now and then. You'll understand that you don't always want them to call you just to ask for money, or other things--but if they ask, you'll do what you can to help them.
You'll know what they really want, but you'll want them to ask you anyway. You'll be thrilled to hear that they recognize all you have done for them. You'll enjoy hearing those "thank you's" that they rarely mention.
When you are a parent, or better yet a grandparent, you'll understand a little better. In the mean time, asking such a question just shows how immature you are.
I'd recommend you going to your earthly parents, and saying, "Dad and Mom, thanks for having me. I realize I'm sort of a pain sometimes. But I'm really glad you feed me, house me, and try to keep me protected from harm. Thank you for all you do for me."
And try to do that without asking for a new skateboard.

Pop Question: have you ACTUALLY read the bible/ book of mormon/ gone to church regularly?
We pray to God because it is comanded to us. To give thanks to the things he has given to us. Also, god is not a man that thinks that everything is already set to doom. He is not a god of fate. If you listen to him, and follow his commandments, he will bless your life and answer your prayers.
God loves us and wants to hear from us. How would you like it if your daughter/son went away and never called you? How can you build a relationship with a friend if you don't talk to him? he is our father, as well as our God.
I pray because it was commanded to me by him, to build a relationship with him, to ask him to help me during hard times, to watch over me as I live my life, I give thanks to him. That's the whole reason we have Thanksgiving.
I love my Heavenly Father and will gladly pray to him.

Praying is NOT begging. God already knows our needs. Praying is comminucating with God. You listen as well as talk. It is way more than Please, Please, Please, Please. It is good morning God, how is your day going? Hi Jesus, hop in the car and let`s take a ride. Thanks Dad, for taking care of that for me. Gee God, I sure do love you. You are so awesome and mighty and majestic. You really rock!!
God *instructed* us to come to him with our desires, as well as for comfort, peace and strength. He wants us to be blessed. Just like any other Dad. He wants us to be happy but he also knows, that sometimes, what we want, is not good and the answer is No.. Just like any other Father who loves us..
Peace & God bless from Texas <><
